I know that, but wasn't Proto disposed of way long before the reclamation of the Training Facility? Why not send it to the Dead Factory right away?
I've always found this to be quite curious.

Indeed buddy. Would've made sense one would think.

Disposal Plant P-12A (I think Dead Factory might be localization again buddy):

The need for a facility capable of adequately disposing of infected waste materials became a pressing matter in the 1990s with the construction of the adjacent Raccoon City Underground Laboratory. The facility used a variety of gases and medicines to destroy evidence of B.O.W. research. In the event material was present which could not be destroyed in the treatment pool, an incinerator was used as a means of drawing power.

2.↑ Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999), file: "Incinerator Manual".

I think this lethal Proto-Tyrant would've been incinerated.

could've been for transportation reasons maybe? I mean this thing was lethal - proto or not

You're right, it is.

I think they used chemicals. Like the pool Nemesis was dropped into (and survived).
The T-103 survived molten lead, too.
I think Umbrella made Tyrants TOO hard to kill...

Thanks for the clarification regarding the Disposal Plant P-12A my friend!
I know right? The Proto Tyrant was already a discarded subject before they even thought about reopening the Training Facility. So, why not send it to the Disposal Plant as soon as it was deemed a "failure"? Why keep it around for so long?
Unless they wanted to keep it around in order to use it as a base for T-002's development, despite Proto already being considered a discarded subject. It might have served a purpose for the time being and as soon as T-002's development was basically complete, they decided to discard Proto for good (which matches the time of the reclamation of the Training Facility) and gave the First Investigation Unit some transportation and disposal orders.

That's a really good point. I hadn't considered that.

The most plausible explanation to me, there was no point in keeping a discarded Prototype like that one for so long. They had the Disposal Plant and opted not to send it there and out of a sudden decided to throw it away during the reopening of the Training Facility?
Proto Tyrant must have served some purpose until the reclamation of the Training Facility, otherwise, it should've been discarded earlier.

this sounds perfect. wish it said as much in some supplemental materials somewhere...

once again we can only speculate, but this is a very educated guess.

Thanks buddy!
We need to keep our interpretation sharp in a series like this, not every single piece of information is well explained.

Another observation I've made. Do you guys remember that part in the Treatment Plant with Plague Crawlers stored inside of some test tubes? With both small and adult ones?
Were those creatures being stored in there ever since the days of James Marcus? Or were they transported there by the First Investigation Unit?
