As the biggest Sonic fan here (I am going to be killed by Yama  ) it is my honor to start this thread.

Sonic Generations comes out tomorrow and it looks excellent. You play as only Sonic, both modern and classic. Classic levels are reborn in stunning fashion.

REVIEWS:

IGN - 8.5

"It feels refreshing to be able to say that Sonic is good again. His upward trajectory over the last year continues and he's only gaining momentum. Sonic Generations is largely a game for the most hardcore of Sonic fans, but for the millions who have fond memories of narrowly dodging spikes, grinding on rails, or even that time he was a pinball, Sonic Generations is a game made for you."

Video Games Zone- 8.5

"Sonic Generations may not make the leap back to the top genre, but at least the game is again a serious alternative to Little Big Planet and Co."

Destructoid- 8.0

"In truth, I have to admit that the Modern Sonic levels are actually more fun. While there are some truly enjoyable 2D stages, the contemporary variants are almost always more exhilarating thanks to their sheer intensity. Such highlights include an explosive new take on the Chemical Plant Zone and an utterly gorgeous Speed Highway level. All told, there are surprisingly few duds compared to the overwhelming majority of bad levels seen in most of the recent titles."

GamesRadar- 8.0

Sorry, what I actually mean is: This is easily the best Sonic game since the hog's Sonic 2 glory days. Surprisingly, modern Sonic's levels are the more impressive and fun and, while low-speed control is still clumsy, the wealth of quality action scenes cherry-picked from the past two decades make the overwhelming majority of Sonic Generations an absolute blast.

The game comes out tomorrow and I want to help you buy it. If you are buying Uncharted 3 take part of the target buy 2 get 1 free this week and use Sonic as one of the games in the deal!

Best Buy will sell Sonic for $40 on Thursday and it can be stacked with a $10 off coupon from their magazine.

The game is $50 everywhere else.

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up. Time for me to find a Best Buy magazine lol. Major Sonic fan as well and this game looks amazing. When I first saw the trailer to this game I practically had a heart attack seeing you could play both next gen and classic Sonic. Amazing. Let's hope the game is as good as the scores that surround it or even better. You did good, Sega. You did good.

EDIT:
I played the demo today I believe this might beat out Sonic Adventure 2 as the best Sonic game of all time and I will deffinetly without hesitation be buying this game now. For those of you who haven't tried the newest demo, you should. It's amazing.

Considering my avatar has the Sonic plush prop, the sonic headpiece, sonic adventure tee and the sonic shoes, as well, I own an actual sonic headpiece myself (from anime expo), sonic, tails, and knuckles plushies, eggman action figure, chaos emeralds, sonic pillow, sonic t-shirt, and just about every release of sonic games ever (save a select few), and I main Sonic in Brawl, I think I'll take the 'biggest sonic fan here' crown for myself, thank you very much ;)

See, I already have my crown.

In any event, looking forward to playing the classic levels as Modern Sonic. The Modern levels are ok, but, the sonic unleashed style just isn't as fun as classic style. I just like the design of Modern Sonic but prefer the classic levels. ESPECIALLY looking forward to the remake of Chemical Plant Zone. My absolute favorite level in the entire series if only because of the Chemical Plant Zone theme.

Got the game today and I must say I'm extremely happy with it. It's actually my favorite Sonic title to date at the moment. It's just incredibly well done. There's so much nostalgia there along with so many references to just about everything in the entire series.

Hardly a spoiler but, just for the sake of it:

Spoiler:
Tails: Dr. Robotnik!
Eggman: No one calls me that anymore!

To wanted posters for various characters 'Last seen in 1993' etc., to

Spoiler:
Tails not recognizing Green Hill Zone but clearly recognizing Chemical Plant Zone.

And tons of other stuff.

The game is just all around fun. They did a fantastic job at modernizing classic levels for Modern Sonic and 'Classic'izing' Modern levels for Classic Sonic. It's just so much fun. Speed Highway and City Escape open up and play almost identical to their SA1 & SA2 counterparts, just in current gen graphics and engine and done in such an amazingly awesome way, it's just pure fun.

I hate to say it, but, I actually really enjoy Modern Sonics levels the most. It's like they FINALLY got 3D/Modern Sonic down and made him actually work right and be fun to play.

They made a really great balance with the game too. All of the friends are there, and all of them 'help' in the levels and have their own little abilities etc., yet they don't detract from the actual game and aren't forcefed onto you either. You only have to deal with them each in one single challenge mission per level that involves them and you still play as Sonic just with them helping out.

They all take part in the story to a degree as well while not really getting in the way. The story itself lends itself to be fun and engaging without going too over the top either. (Despite the fact I actually enjoyed the over the top 'epic' cinematics in the 3D games)

The levels are divided into 2 acts each, one in classic style and one in modern style. Then there's a bunch of challenges for each map but unlike Sonic Unleashed, Sonic & the Secret Rings etc. that forced you to repeat the same levels 20 times to complete all challenges to be able to advance, the challenges are entirely optional outside of one single challenge of your choosing from each stage that you 'have' to do. And on top of that, challenges aren't just doing something in the existing level. For the most part, they're entirely new levels in their own right just using the gimmicks and motif of the stage at hand.

So while you may be in a Chemical Plant Zone inspired challenge level, the level itself isn't the same thing you just finished doing for Act 1 and 2.

The boss battles are all nostalgia trips and quite fun as well. Total recreations of the boss battles from all the previous games in a new and fun way.

Add in Classic and Modern Remixes of TONS of music from throughout the entire series and it's just again, so much fun.

Spoiler:
Hearing the City Escape song and the remix of it made that one of the funnest levels in the game. As well, hearing Open Your Heart during the Perfect Chaos fight was wonderful.

And best of all, the Shadow fight is hands down my favorite at the moment for doing True Story on top of having Live & Learn play if Sonic gets Chaos Control or All Hail Shadow playing if Shadow gets Chaos Control.

So far the only gripe I've had with the game was Crisis City. It was the only level that seemed off-key in terms of controls and made me die stupidly, repeatedly. It almost felt like Sega purposely made that level fuck up as a throwback to how glitchy and fucked up Sonic '06 was........

Anyway, I can't gleam enough about how much fun I've had with Generations in just the past few hours I've played it since I bought it this afternoon.

If you can get past all the 'Sonic Fanboy hate syndrome' that plagues the community to hate everything that comes out no matter what, and nitpick and criticize EVERYTHING. And just accept that the game is a celebration of Classic and Modern 'inspired' levels and gameplay, with TONS of fan service and nostalgia, you'll enjoy it very much.

Definitely 8.5/10
