Gametrailers conducted an interview with Mike Jones, one of the producers of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Jones reveals the game starts before the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, when HUNK infiltrates Birkin's laboratory to retrieve the G-Virus sample. He strongly suggests there will be additional game modes with alternate gameplay featuring classic characters, to be announced in the coming months.

Joystiq has an article about a beta or demo version of the game coming out early next year. During Capcom's Gamers Day event last week, Jones said the public at large will get a stab at the game before its launch. A public demo is planned for "early next year," though he wouldn't offer exact details on the nature of the demo or when we should expect to be able to download it.

Lastly, IGN.com posted a gameplay video showing a brand new area: the City Hall.

This game could live or die on the strength of that demo. Think it says a lot about Capcom's confidence in the game that they're prepared to do a pre-release demo - but their confidence has been misplaced in the past.

Not sure why they wrote off a playable demo as a beta, big difference. Either way, fun times ahead. Really excited for this game.

One thing I see that already kind of bugs me in the game play is the reticle. I hate how it is just always centered at the screen, and the only way to move it is to move the whole character, like strifing side to side. It's annoying and also unrealistic. Who in the world shoots a gun by keeping their whole entire upper body static, and moves with their feet to hit targets not in front of them? No one. I wish that they have another control scheme where you move your character with the left analog stick, and also be able to move the reticle around the screen (limited movement, but not like able to move it along the whole screen from end to end) with the right analog stick. I wonder how to contact Capcom about this before the game is released..

Being able to play as classic chars is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. Just hope it's not limited to some alternate offline mode or something. Would be nice to just be able to play the online death match kinda stuff with Jill and friends.

Either way, the game is just sound better and better. And a demo release is also great news. RE5's demo did very well for it. Most people who played it loved it and bought the game thanks to it. Here's hoping ORC's demo can pull the same feet.

I just wish the release date wasn't so far away still.

Capcom confirmed the demo isn't happening.

Well, that's stupid. It seems like if they were confident in the game, they would release a demo. If it were truly a good game, it would help sales.

Being as hesitant as I am towards this game, a demo would have helped me decide whether or not to buy. Guess it'll be a rental from me, no way I'm going to blind buy this, being as iffy as I am on it.

Questionable move... but hey... that's Capcom.

With or without the demo I am very excited for this. Imagine getting to play as Hunk when we arrives with his team to steal the G-Virus from Birkin that would be such an awesome part to play out and then they accompany it with the Original Resident Evil 2 video that would just be awesome!

I maybe and this is just me getting excited but what if they have one extra game mode with static cameras could you even imagine how awesome that would be ahhh I'm too excited for this game...please don't let me down Capcom!

Over-hyping the game much? And yeah, that's not going to happen.
