I like the English dubs for the most part, aside from the atrocities like BHUC. My main gripe is that the English dubs are always based on an incorrect, mistranslated, butchered script.

I was just joking, though your post did kind of come off that way.

According to Douglas, he was actually trying to sound like Peter Jessop.

I'm sure he was probably mistaken, as Jessop sounds nothing like what Douglas was pulling off.

Douglas specifically said in an interview that he was asked to sound like Peter Jessop, not Richard Waugh. He even described the clips they played of Jessop's Wesker, as well as what Jessop's voice sounded like to him when trying to recreate it.

I'll see if I can dig up the interview. Considering Capcom apparently originally wanted Jessop to voice Wesker in RE5 anyway, but he was not available at the time, I think it makes more sense for them to want Douglas to try to sound like Jessop than Waugh.

But... Douglas sounds nothing like Jessop. At all. I can't get past this.

Maybe he was trying to merge Jessop and Waugh? *shrugs*

Patricia Ja Lee said she was asked to do an amalgamation of all of Jill's previous VAs when she recorded for Umbrella Chronicles, so maybe it was a similar scenario with Douglas? I don't know. I'm just going by what he himself said.

I hated Lee's voice acting, to be honest. Seemed so dull, lifeless and devoid of emotion. Even when she was attempting to convey some (her "NO!" before throwing herself out a window).

I think most of the bad acting is primarily the fault of the casting directors and the Japanese staff who don't even know what the fuck is being said or how it really sounds. A bit like how part of what caused the absurd drivel that was BH1's dialogue was caused primarily by Mikami telling the actors to speak slowly with a script that was translated by another Japanese staff member with a piss grasp of English.

WHAT? Really?? I thought she was terrific! and WAY better than Jill's voice actor for Revelations.

Lee sounds like she should be voicing a female Zombie instead. Not that I like the Revelations VA any better (still can't give an ounce of genuine emotion). The quality of their voice acting isn't much better than the unknown girl who voiced Jill in the Pachi-slot game.

Her remake and BH3 VA's on the other hand were god-tier and full of awesome.

News Bot: There was NOTHING wrong with Lee and Revelations Jill's VA's. I think you are blinded because you simply don't like Jill.
