Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, Producer of Resident Evil 6 has confirmed at an E3 interview that there will be no Merchant or Shop system in the game. Weapons won't be bought or sold and will rely on you obtaining them through the levels as you progress.

Whether this means you will need to find weapons in the levels solely or whether once you find them you can keep them in a stockpile similiar to RE5 is yet to be seen.

He also confirms that most characters use all the same weapons as well. And the game will use a skill point system to help level your characters up in custom ways. Therefore one player's Leon may be different from anothers in terms of abilities.

You can read more about it here.

Great news. I want to find my weapons rather than purchase them, thank you.

Just like the good old days.

Agreed, looks like a right step. This isn't shaping out to be as bad as I thought it would be.

Saying that I can see it being similar to the Mercenaries 3D setup with perks and stuff, though that was kind of nice so I'm not complaining.

Great news indeed! I like collecting stuff and finding weapons on my own, just like in the old days. This surely increases the exploration aspect.

This.

Admittedly I did love treasure runs in Biohazard 4, but I'll continue to do them there. Glad to see this aspect returning to its roots for the most part.

I really do hope there is an exploration part to this game. RE5 was way to linear and was just about running from point A to B. =/

Mixed reception from me.

For during initial playthroughs - certainly, keep that sort of thing out of the way. But if the game keeps it's episodic nature like RE5 where you can pick and choose your levels for later playthroughs i'd have said it was a good idea to keep the same merchant system as 5.

I do like the idea of finding your weapons being the method of obtaining them, but upgrading guns was fun.

Even still, I've been getting this sinking feeling that this is going to turn into COD in terms of weapon uniqueness and how important the guns are themselves-- which, in COD, is not at all.
I hope that they aren't planning to just run through levels and pick up whatever guns you find, use them and then the next level they're gone again, or in any case, they don't matter because there will be lots more assault rifles, etc laying around. That's boring. So. So. Boring.
