I have a new theory regarding ORC. In light of the recent announcement that ORC is in fact a non-canon entry, I think that Capcom went in with it being canon initially but since it became apparent that Slant Six failed to do the most basic research (and this is brought to their attention via fan reaction), they had to backpeddle and instead say that it's a non-canon alternate universe timeline.

Worth noting that the only thing that Slant Six have done is two SOCOM titles for the PSP, both were nothing spectacular and a SOCOM title for the PS3 which was critically panned for being incomplete. Why Capcom enlisted their "expertise" is beyond me.

What's even more worrying is that Slant Six are apparently going to be taking over the SOCOM franchise from Zipper. Not like they can do any more damage, Zipper already fucked everything up when they released SOCOM 4. Take an existing gameplay system that works perfectly, change it all around to cater to the Call of Duty audience with regenerating health and there you go! A ruined series.

I think at the end of the day I'm not blaming Slant Six, Zipper or any developer. My blame lies with that which has forced these developers to alter their games - the Call of Duty franchise. Someone from Capcom UK at one point even mentioned that they were aiming to appeal to the Call of Duty audience, so it's affecting Resident Evil now too. The cancer itself may be dying, but its effects are spreading to other franchises.

I hear they're thinking of doing a sequel if this one does well. How the hell will that work? Which timeline will they follow? The one where Leon, Claire, Jill and Carlos all get killed or the canon one where they all live? And besides that, when and where would it happen? Rockfort Island? That's all I can think of but that doesn't really make any sense.

In addition, I dislike how Slant Six are shoehorning their shitty original characters into preestablished canon, and failing in the process. It's like you have a bookshelf of neatly arranged and organised novels, and then S6 come along and pull out everything just to shove their own sub-par works into the bookshelf, tearing and damaging other books in the process. Before anyone starts throwing around the idea that the series contradicts itself all the time, if you go by the original Japanese source material it actually maintains a consistent narrative, which is impressive for a series that is now over fifteen years old.

Oh there's Ava. Uh uh uh, Ava Wong!" Really?
"It doesn't have a Resident Evil feeling." Shocker!
"Compare it to 4 & 5." In which aspects?

Silly reviewers are silly.

Well it makes the VR simulation theory more valid now that a game set during the incident takes place *ten years* after the incident.

I'm going to have to assume those two merely got the names wrong and merely overexaggering.

Oh yes! Operation Rockfort Island! You play as an HCF team with Wesker barking out orders mowing down zombies and bandersnatches in places on the island that were inaccessible in Code Veronica with super advanced weaponry. Maybe come up with an idiotic sidequest which you can kill Claire, Steve, Chris and even Alfred. Of course for that to work, you would have to disobey Wesker who would simply leave them to fend for themselves as the mission priority is to find and retrieve Alexia.

I think they're attempting to troll by catering to what people hate the most and then amplifying it.

Oh yeah, I couldn't believe the stupidity of that statement... in case people missed it, here it is in all it's glory:

Quote:
Capcom UK's head of marketing, Dave Turner, pointed out to MCV ahead of the Resident Evil 6 reveal that action-focused Resident Evil 5 is in fact the series' biggest seller, and even revealed aspirations to attract Call of Duty players.

Asked why the series has taken a more action-focussed stance - specifically with Operation Raccoon City - Turner said:

"We've seen the popularity of Resident Evil increase massively as the series became more action oriented - Resident Evil 5 is the biggest seller in the series. So, it makes sense for us to follow this action area more fully."

He added of Operation Raccoon City: "The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil."
