Every time I've played you're not able to double on any character types. Characters already chosen by another teammate can't be selected by you, unless they change their mind. So only one person could be Bertha for example. That means you couldn't make a team of four medics or mix and match and each team member must be a different character. If you have a preference when you play I'd say you'd better pick them quick before anyone else does :)

Scrambling for your preferred character. I both like and hate that. Means I'm going to try to not pick favorites.

Thanks

Do you know if the character select pops up every round or if you can select preferred before in the menu?

hopefully Jill,Dee-Ay, Four Eyes aren't always taken.

It seemed before the match started, both teams were already decided on who'd be USS and who'd be Sepc Ops. This was done by the game hosts at the event, so I can't tell how players can choose what team they want to be when playing the actual game. But once that is decided, both teams will be in a lobby where you're able to choose your characters. I'd have to assume that's how it is before every match, this lobby area is where all the characters, weapons, and abilities are chosen and the match won't start until everyone's ready. This means you won't be able to set up a default choice, you'll still have to shuffle through the character select all the time. Also, if I remember correctly, you can't see who/what the opposing team chooses and vice versca.

When it came to most favored characters, I noticed Lupo/Dee-Ay were probably the first characters players tried to select. Being the assault class, most players may have preferred that run n gun style. Other characters who are just plain popular were also first to be picked like Vector and Jill. Characters like Four-Eyes were usually second choice, it seemed, by most folks. Not that it matters too much, it'll all be how you use them plus how the team works together that'll matter most I think.

Edit: additionally, after every match the game went to a strange screen I think was just for that build. The hosts at the event then did whatever there which brought the players back to the lobby. So i.e. I don't know what'll happen after every match in the actual game. Like if you win/lose, does your selected character/weapons etc. remain the same? I can't say. I assume you'd have to pick them all over again.

Was Beltway a popular choice?

Yup! It seemed there wasn't a team that didn't have Beltway/Tweed. He's got a lot of cool passive abilities, however I think the only offensive ability selectable was the remote frag mine (you have to set them off yourself). I noticed that the laser trip mine wasn't available for the builds I played, which sounded like it'd be more effective and fun. Can't wait to see those used! Boom! :)

Should have asked earlier, what passive abilities does Beltway have?

I can't remember them all but I think he had his blast armor which protects against explosions, for the most part. That's helpful because of all the grenades used. When both teams meet in the map the first thing they do is probably chuck everything they got haha. My teammate told me Beltway also had sticky grenades, kind of like the semtex in MW, where they stick to surfaces instead of roll. There are a few others but I can't think of them at the moment.
