I am a big fan of good body horror.
I thought to make a creative monster design appreciation thread, and to spread awareness of the most grotesque abominations out there. They can be from anything, but a visual example is appreciated (just be careful. No nudity). Examples from Resident Evil can be used, but try to inject variety.

Qualifications: has to be disturbing, cool looking, scary/creepy, or otherwise ghastly. Movies, video games, comics, artwork, anything. I include descriptions I wrote for many of the monsters I share, but this is by no means a requirement.

Here are some from one of my absolute favorite movies, John Carpenter's 1982 The Thing (Warning! Discretion Advised):

If you ever wondered what G-virus mutants would look like in real life, now you know.

[EDIT: Part two of my coverage of The Thing can be found on page 11.]

The thing is a great choice and Godzilla as well! Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet but of course you need to have the Xenomorph and especially the Xenomorph Queen.

Funny you should say that. I had this saved as a draft:

Another monster from another of my favorite movies is the "Xenomorph" from the Alien series, created by the late master of body horror and inventor of the bio-mechanical style, H.R. Giger.

There are so many awesome examples I could show, and so I will split it into a few posts.
For now, I will focus on just the original concept art and props/costume for first film.

Giger's original pictures and concept art for the alien (what is SFW anyway, as some of his works are... evocative):

The alien's head. The dome is not on it, revealing the skull many did not know was present:

Any of Cronenberg’s earlier works are the definition of body horror.

Shivers, Rabid, Videodrome, The Fly.

You beat me to The Fly, WR. It's awesomely horrific.

More Xenomorph anyone?

Drone - A young adult Xenomorph, these tend to the hive and capture prey for harvesting. These, like all Xenomorphs, have highly corrosive acid blood capable of melting away steel. Their bodies are highly pressurized, and so blood shoots outwards when they are hurt. They can survive in environmental extremes (even the vacuum of space), and are at least as intelligent as dogs (probably more, as they know to do things like cut power).

Warrior/Soldier - Drones mature into these, which take on a more offensive role, killing threats to them, the hive, and the young. They are less sleek and more rigid, with the translucent dome now absent.

The magnificent Matriarch/Queen - A Xeno with exemplary genes may, when a Queen is absent and when exposed to royal jelly, enter a chrysalis and become a new Queen. These lay eggs from an enlarged abdomen (similar to that of a queen termite), from which she can detach to pursue threats. She is said in some material to be capable of controlling other Xenos via hive mind, can live hundreds of thousands of years, and is possibly far more intelligent than humans.

Runner - Xenomorphs incubate in living hosts as embryos, from which they obtain genetic material to better adapt to life in the host's environment. As such, they can display features derived from the host. This is the case with Runners, which are quadrupedal Xenos made from dogs.
Spoiler:
Alien 3

Facehugger - The reproductive stage of Xenomorphs, these emerge from eggs laid by a Queen, and seek adequate hosts (including humans) to "impregnate" with Xeno embryos. They provide life support to the host to keep them alive for the "baby", can shoot acid to remove obstacles, like helmets, and are impossible to remove, as cutting lets loose acid blood, while trying to pry it off causes it's grip to tighten, eventually strangling the host. After impregnation has finished, they curl up and die like a spider. Queen Facehuggers can carry two embryos: one to build a hive and protect the other, the other to become a Queen.

I was going to show more, but the Facehugger is essentially walking genitalia, and the underside shows it.

Chestburster - Xeno embryos develop into these, which rip their way out of hosts and develop into Drones within hours.

Even more to come!

Especially considering the actors didn't even know about it beforehand, making their reactions genuine.

Yep. Veronica Cartwright screamed i terror when that blood sprayed on her face.

To this day that scene makes me feel all queasy inside and gives me the chills.

A masterful work of timeless art.

Not enough movies use practical effects these days.
