Let's start with the ending storyboard of the main game. It featured brown-haired "Captain Chris" rescuing Ethan then having one of his teammates mention that they've found a new E-Type sample, which Chris smiles at and refers to it as "plunder." In the final game, the sample part is omitted.

In the datamined Not A Hero objective files, it turns out the entire scenario was changed, not just the ending:

Quote:
Task01_GetWhiteMoldSample
Task02_RescueBravoTeamMember1
Task03_RescueBravoTeamMember2
Task04_RemoveGasArea
Task05_CrashTheDrill
Task06_CrashTheCamera
Task07_RecoveryOfImportantDocuments
Task08_GetBlackMoldedData
Task09_AmmunitionSupply
Task10_RecoveryOfTheCommunicationRecord
Task11_RecoveryOfTheSubject_TypeE
Task12_RecoveryOfTheConnection_MemberList
Task13_KillExtremeWhiteMolded
Task14_NoDamage_ArrestedLucas
Task15_Eavesdrop_LucasAndConnection

The original story had Chris recovering data and samples, as well as learning more about The Connections including their members and finally, arresting Lucas rather than killing him. In the final game Lucas mutates instead and has betrayed The Connections for yet another mysterious organization, and we learn nothing new about them, the Mold or H.C.F.

On top of that, there's a lot of things that look like they were originally files. Lots of "CONFIDENTIAL" folders lying around in conspicuous places as if they were meant to be seen. Also the fact that obtaining a White Molded sample was originally the first objective seems to imply that it directly followed the storyboard.

So what does everyone think went on with the story here? Could be anything at this point. Hopefully because they want to dedicate it all to its own full story. We also learned nothing about Chris chasing Eveline in 2014 or what happened to the LNG (no attack is mentioned in NAH despite Dusk's assertions). The bit about Umbrella being reincorporated in 2007 feels almost troll-level, but there is no doubt an explanation behind it.

Wasn't another team working on this game? Did they contribute to just the gameplay?

I'd like to think the original intent was to leave it open for a later installment, but having so many open ended moments grom prior games perhaps left Capcom feeling a bit burnt out so they tied up NaH and EoZ in a neat little package to conclude the RE7 experience. I never saw Lucas as a major player of things to come regardless, even if he were to survive. But it sounded like they needed a big bad monster to fight so he became the prime candidate.

The issue is the cutting of sample and data recovery as well as completely ignoring The Connections for the sake of introducing another random organization who we also learn precisely nothing about. It's getting very tiresome.

Also "Not A Hero" appears to mean nothing at all. Perhaps due to the cut story? It really seems like they just took scissors to anything resembling an answer.

With cutting the recovery, I can see it being so as to either not be such an obvious sequel setup (they still recover them, just off-screen now no doubt) or because Chris wasn't actually Chris at that stage, which would explain more than a few things.

The Baker estate is now also a quarantine zone so it's probable other organizations will obtain the Mold.

Lucas didn't betrayed Connections. He killed their researchers because he's crazy. That data transfer at the end was for them. After that he wanted to cut ties, because "only Lucas was worthy of the mold experiments".

He was looking for someone to buy the E-Type data. He could hardly sell The Connections their own data.

Yes he wanted to sell the data for personal gain, but he still send those to the Connections HQ.

And after all we don't know if it wasn't The Connections intentions to sell Evie or any other potentional E-series. After all that's what they do. Selling B.O.W. on black market.

I loved it from a gameplay perspective, but it didn't answer anything. I mean, absolutely NOTHING.

Well, now we have a date... and it's 2007. What?!

And apparently Eveline started and stopped ageing in 2016.

I'm afraid you're wrong on this one. He betrays The Connections for "Fuckin' Company", the one he's talking to on the phone at the beginning.

How does 2007 fit with everything else? Wesker was busy with Uroboros then.

Normally I'm very positive about RE, and I love 7, but I have to agree with this. I know almost nothing more after playing NaH.

Nobody can be expected to know this right now, but it's not an issue.
