I think you should heed your own advice. I have no problems with people who disagree with me. In fact, I'm very used to people not agreeing with me. I should also add that I didn't agree with most of the people in this topic, but I didn't fly off the handle like you did and call other people's points "nonsence" with little to no rebuttal. I pointed out my reasons for disliking RE4 and why I like RE5 better without antagonizing anyone. It was you who couldn't seem to handle a negative opinion.

Not directed at anyone, but I will add. Two sides to everything, keep it cool. Will not allow the forum quality to slide in any way. Feel free to discuss and even debate, but don't cross the lines. We're all fans of the same series here.

Anyhow, shared my thoughts on the previous page. In the middle... kind of.

I for one find opinions of RE5 being better than RE4 to be quite refreshing (even though I do not necessarily agree) and I encourage more discussion of it (in the appropriate forums).

I'm running through this game again on professional to get the rest of the achievements. And I don't know what it is, but I'm enjoying the game a little more this time around. I don't know if I've finally come to terms with my disdain for how the game plays or if the game itself has changed slightly. AI seems a bit more aggressive and the game seems to play faster because of it. It could have just been a single chance happening, but has the AI been improved? Because as I recall both the GC and PS2 versions of this game had similar AI regardless of difficulty mode. They simply hit harder. And I always played the game on professional back in the day.

I suppose you forget then:

RE4: Hello, Umbrella's stocks plummeted. They're dead. Moving on many years later, Leon's the new James Bond and must rescue the president's daughter in a generic action movie plotline.

To claim RE5 brang a 'completely terrible end to Umbrella arc' to defend RE4 over 5, when RE4 before it did a far worse job at that, is pretty silly.

At least he wasn't punching boulders with his bare hands like a damn caveman. "Ug, boulder in me way, must punch!"

Chris only punched it after lifting and pushing it like crazy, motivated entirely by adrenaline to save Sheva's life.

Leon see's giant monsters holding them in their hand ready to crush him and he's yawning and cracking jokes while making impossible jumps through impossible laser Grids like it's nothing.

In any event, RE5 definitely has better gameplay mechanics than RE4, but, that's obvious. It built upon RE4, took everything that was great about RE4 and expanded on them and improved on them. So of course RE5 would play better. Going back to RE4 in terms of gameplay after playing RE5 for so long is certainly going to be a chore because of how limited the gameplay is in comparison. Even I wasn't thrilled with this.

RE5 also has a much better plotline than RE4 in 'my' opinion because it actually has SOMETHING to do with the plotline of RE. It isn't just some generic James Bond wannabe plot with zero relevance to the rest of the series. As someone else stated, remove Leon and Ada from the plotline and replace them with two other chars and RE4 would be completely unrecognizable as an RE game in of itself. Nothing about it's plot has anything to do with anything prior in RE whatsoever.

Regardless, RE4 as mentioned definitely does deserve praise for what it did for the series and gaming in general. It is a great game and a very fun game. I certainly wouldn't even put it anywhere near on my list of top favorite RE games, but, that doesn't mean I think it's a terrible game.

As a game in it's own right, it's a terrific game. As an RE game it's 'decent' at best.

And yes, RE4 does have far more atmosphere than RE5, but, in the end, it all comes down to what you as a RE fan want out of an RE.

Some fans really like the gloomy atmosphere, some fans really like the characters, some fans really like the storyline, and some fans just like killing zombies and mutated monsters. So it's easy to see why some may love RE4 to death and hate RE5, and vice versa.

Someone who loves Ada and Leon are obviously going to enjoy RE4 far more, while a Chris or Jill fan are obviously going to prefer RE5 in most cases.

Both games are great in their own right, and also have flaws in their own right as well. It's all about personal preference and nothing more.

Regardless, in order to enjoy RE4 after playing RE5, you simply need to stop thinking of it in terms of RE5 and just accept and enjoy it for what it is and not for what it isn't. Once I got passed the fact I couldn't melee or move around as fast and quick aim easily, or switch weapons etc. fast and easy, I enjoyed the game far more and learned to cope with the games own mechanics and just enjoy it from that point of view.

RE4 is still one of my lesser favorite RE titles in the series, but, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy playing through the HD release and had a lot of fun experiencing it all over again.

Sweet jesus, it's taking forever. It's been over an hour and it's only at 46%.

Finally done downloading (After 3 hours!!!).

I haven't played the GC version in a while, so the crappy PS2 version is the only one I've recently played, and I've gotta say... HUGE DIFFERENCE.

The game looks great. Nice and sharp, and the character models look far more detailed.

Had to switch my button layout to type 2 though, after playing RE5 for so long, the default layout felt... off.

On a side note, Leon's mobster attire still doesn't show up in cutscenes. I am disappoint .

Miss the edit button? Bah, anyways.

Tried RE4 on my bros PS3 today. It just feels crisper in detail, not extremely polished like I expected. I never noticed the fog crawl in during the opening car scene until now.

Did they swicth the shooting buttons around from R1+X to R1+ square? Or was I just so used to RE5's controls? Probably the latter.
The cutscenes, thankfully, take a shorter time to load. The "villager encounter" scene felt like I was walking into it instead of having the game take control for a while.

I've only made it to the save point prior to the swamp. I'm looking forward to the El Gigante and Verdugo fight above everything. Anyone got anything to say regarding Mercs?

Did that need commenting on? Nearly a week later, when his posts were days apart anyway?
