Games Master has delievered its six-page Resident Evil Revelations review, awarding the title a 91% score and calling it "one of the scariest games ever committed to handheld."

The review opens by showering praise on the episodic delivery of its narrative, which it describes as "an effective delivery system" that "plays perfectly into the 3DS's strength." According to the review, the game's "chapters have been designed to be picked up or put down at a moment's notice".

The game's setting is described as "one large, expanding environment" that gives fans of exploration plenty of incentive to wander around: "revisiting old locations with discovered keys unlocks new areas".

GM goes on to point out that Revelations "deeply respects its heritage. IF Resi fans felt alienated by 5, then this is the game to convince them that the series is back to its best."

The review concludes by boldly stating Resident Evil Revelations is "a better sequel to Resi 4 than 5 ever managed to be, and it's a clear sign that Nintendo and Capcom are committed to keeping the core series alive and kicking."

I'm even more disappointed that this is a handheld title. *sigh*

At least it's a game that seems to be redeeming the series.

Wow this is great news, now I'm looking forward to it even more. Thanks for sharing this Mr. Rod, so what did they say about the game's multiplayer?

Even though I'm going to buy a 3DS just for this game, I agree with you. Just imagine what it would look like on the PS3's engine!? And the online would be much better on a console then on a handheld.

Oh well, a good review is a step in the right direction!

Curious as to what Re4 scored on this particular scale. Because if this scored higher than Re4 then all bets are off as this being a 3DS exclusive, as we've seen re4 is probably the most ported title to date going to everything from the HD re-release to the phone market. Just some food for thought.

Porting a PC/console game to a handheld is one thing, but porting a handheld game to a PC/console is another. Imagine the graphics distortion, not that I'm a graphics whore or anything, but going from a 6x3 inch screen to a 12x7 foot screen can't be good.

I can definitely see a PS Vita port in the near future.

Revelations uses the MT Framework Mobile engine and is native HD. It would not be difficult at all for them to port it to consoles.

RE4 got ported everywhere and sold so well because of what it was. It was extremely casual friendly, almost completely seperate and stand alone entry in the series with little to no story from previous titles necessary to understand it, and most of all, it completely changed the 3rd person shooter genre.

It was unique and exciting and did something no other game had done before in how it played and presented itself. It completely changed how people approached the third person genre and almost every third person game since then has taken inspiration from RE4. The stand alone story and casual friendliness only helped to seal the deal on making it something everyone and their grandmothers could play and enjoy without any ties or knowledge of previous RE games.

Revelations really has none of that going for it, and is doing nothing to change the genre. So even if Rev scores higher as an RE game than RE4 did, it's not likely going to receive as warm a reception to the masses as RE4 did to warrant porting it out to every console ever made like RE4. At best, the only thing Rev has going for it is that it's the best looking handheld game on the market and might change what people could expect from a handheld game. But, I'm not sure that's enough to make as bold and big of changes as RE4 did.

I hope to stand corrected as I would love a 360 port of Revelations, but, I just don't see it really happening.
