Through a simple announcement on their webpage, Nintendo has announced the Nintendo 3DS, which will be their next handheld and the true successor to the current DS. It will have the ability for 3D graphics to be displayed without the need for any glasses while having backwards compatibility with DS and DSi software. The Nintendo 3DS is planned for release before March 31, 2011 (the current fiscal year). Nintendo will officially unveil the handheld at E3 on June 15.

While the announcement of new game hardware is always notable, it is interesting that this comes at a time when a handheld Biohazard is currently under development (for the PSP). Moreover, the Nintendo DS itself received a Biohazard title as well as the Game Boy Color before it.

With Capcom intent on using the Biohazard series to implement a game system's unique capabilities, as we saw with Biohazard 4 and Biohazard 5, it's not unbelievable to think that the 3DS may be home to a future Biohazard game unlike any before it. This is purely speculation at this point. Stay tuned for more developments!

Yup I am glad I waited on getting a new DS. If this thing has all the features that are rumored it will be incredible. For sure most major franchises will be on board, hopefully this time RE will get more than just a new port.

How about Mikami and his 3D horror game idea, hmm.

I will absolutely get one if they relase that, even more if by rebirth u mean the gamecube one.

If they put out RE1 in any form again I am going to cry. Enough already, RE2 please.
