What I had honestly thought, from the moment I heard the game was co-op and that Jill was 'dead', was that your new partner (Sheva) was going to die/get injured at some point, and Jill would continue on for the rest of the game and finish Wesker with Chris. That's how I imagined it in my head up until the Jill fight when Sheva made it and they left Jill behind, after that I was like "....wtf?"

That would've been the best course of action imo, and it would have satisfied EVERYONE. Therefore DE could've been Sheva and Josh and they would've been partners again, it would have been perfect. When Jill gave that spinning back kick to Sheva and sent her flying into the wall she should have broken an arm or something.

^Getting upset at something because it didn't turn out as you imagined it is kinda silly though. We all have our own little ideas of how RE5 should have went and what we expected. Not all of us were going to get our wishes.

I was the first one feeling 'dissapointed' in RE5 back when it was first released and everyone was still riding the hype train of fighting Wesker and thinking it was so awesome. I got over my dissapointments with the game though and accepted it for what it was and not for what it wasn't. Everyone else seemed to die down from the hype at that point and hop onto the 'Meh, this game isn't what I had wanted!' train and hasn't gotten off since.

If you stopped looking at Sheva as Jill's replacement in your eyes and just accepted Sheva for Sheva, you'd probably find her to actually be a half decent character who doesn't really deserve being hated on.

Claire and Leon replaced Chris and Jill in RE2. After RE1, I think we 'all' expected to see Chris and Jill again in RE2 and continue their adventures, not get stuck in with two completely new chars. But, that didn't stop Claire and (RE2) Leon from being enjoyable and worthwhile chars simply because they 'replaced' Chris and Jill in that game, did it?

So why hate on Sheva?

I'm not upset, I was just a little disappointed. I mean, the way I described the plot in my last post was like the perfect RE5 plot in my eyes, I dont think many would disagree with that being a better plot than what canonically happened. I just thought I'd share something semi off-topic, this had nothing to do with what we were previously talking about.

Actually no, even if Jill wasn't in this game at all, I still wouldn't like Sheva. She's a flat character, her lines are complete crap, and like Zementh said, her background is one of the most cliche character plots ever.

"That was for our fallen brothers".... God, I CRINGE even thinking about that. One of the worst lines in RE history, and definitely the worst timed. ...and there have been some BAD lines...

I agree the plot probably would have been a lot better, never debated that. And I've mentioned myself before how 'stupid' some of Sheva's lines are and especially how she seems to love stating the obvious or repeating something someone JUST finished stating, in the form of a question.

I can't even think off the top of my head because I'm semi-tired at the moment but it was like:

Chris: Wesker!
Sheva: What? This is wesker?
Chris: Jill!
Sheva: What? Are you sure that's her?
Chris: Jill....
Sheva: Jill?
Chris: Wesker!
Sheva: Wesker?
Chris: Umbrella!
Sheva: Umbrella?

Or one of my favorites is:

CHRIS: Where is this facility? Answer me! What is the Uroboros Project!?

IRVING: The BSAA...wow, you two are just on top of everything, aren't ya? The
balance of the world is changing and you're completely oblivious to it.

SHEVA: What's changing? What are you talking about!? Is it the Uroboros
Project? Is that it?

or

EXCELLA: Evolution. It's a philosopher's stone, one that will choose through
DNA who shall proceed to the next stage. My vision and his combined, now made a
reality.

SHEVA: Evolution? What are you talking about!?

Stuff like that quite often annoyed me, where she would either repeat something already stated, or just act completely oblivious and ask a question about something that was JUST explained to her. But, all I was stating was that despite stuff like that, Sheva herself doesn't bother me. She's far from the greatest RE char, and definately not someone I would place on my high list for desired returning characters. But, I certainly don't hate or even dislike her. I don't think anything she did despite how underwhelming she may have been outright deserves 'hate'. And if she did show up in a future game for some reason, so long as it was logical for her to do so, I wouldn't really complain or care too much. I wouldn't go YAY! over it, but, i wouldn't really care either.

Yes that is one thing that annoys the hell out of me about Sheva is that that's pretty much all the ever does is ask stupid questions. She's like the Raiden of Resident Evil.

^I never had a problem with Raiden either. I think some people just get 'too' attached to old characters that they can't appreciate 'new' characters.

That's the thing I quite like Raiden since I started on that particular series at number 2. But you have a fair point.

Oh and as for Leon and Claire replacing Jill and Chris, I never really thought of it that way. To be honest I've never really played RE2; my uncle had it when I was little and he had a save file at the end, so I turned it on one day and beat Tyrant, beat the game and that's it . So I kept an open mind about Leon (until i saw how 'badass' they tried making him in RE4, then I disliked him), and Claire I absolutely loved in Code:Veronica.

I don't have a problem with new characters, honestly. It's really just Sheva. She's truly a shitty character, for reasons previously stated among others, and I welcome anyone who can give reason to say otherwise.
