Zoning is legit, but obviously you take combo opportunities when they are open to you. I don't even understand what is being argued here. You are both calling each other out on things you aren't saying. Nobody said anything about never zoning or never doing any combos until it was accused.
The only character doing all runaway all the time is Arthur though.

If these characters were solely made for keep away, then they would have no way to move in, no need for air-dashes, no need for teleports nor dive kicks. You truly have no idea how easy it is for Dormammu to stop Wolverine or any kind of rush down pressure and effectively gain momentum back. His crouch Medium can stuff SO much and has a huge hitbox that leads for a free launch into whatever you want (something damaging hopefully). Especially with his teleport and a possible good assist, after a knockdown Dormammu certainly has options (especially after OTGs). Basically, if you want characters who were CLEARLY made for keepaway, then use Arthur. That's a character (who can't even dash) whom you KNOW was meant for "stay the f*ck" away from me. If you truly choose to just sit back and do peekaboos and hopscotches all day, then you really don't know the character's "REAL potential".

And let's be real here...zoning? Right, more like mindless spam. You're gonna tell me that you effectively zone peekaboos and hopscotches, as well as dark holes and purifications and that it shuts down Wolvie and Sentinel...those must be some seriously scrubby opponents. That sh*t is yesterday's news and will get raped so bad.

Oh, and just for the record...you DO realize that Trish can outperform Sentinel in almost every way? Trish, even before Sent's health got nerfed, was seriously and still is an anti-Sentinel character. Trap shots and peekaboos help, but you gotta get the combos in to do damage. That's my overall point. Combos do DAMAGE. If you're so scared to attempt one because you're afraid that "big ol' canucklehead Wolvie" or "bucket o'bolts Sentinel" are gonna one shot kill you, then you have no business posting in this thread. Because that is not a competitive mindset and ANYONE who's top level will tell you that. And before you say "I never said I don't try combos"...you may not be saying THAT directly, but you talk of "zoning" like it's all you do and even zoners are known to do some combos.

Never did I say keep away should be the one and only strategy used. But there's zero reason for a dorm or trish to focus on sole rushdown and ignore their keep away and zoning abilities.

You always say "Never did I say this nor that", but you don't have to 100% directly STATE something for it to be implied. If you truly, really cannot see that you're basically saying this in the previous post, then ignorance is truly bliss.

I never said I didn't do combo's or that a character should be 100% focused on running away an entire match without following up on openings etc.

All I even argued was you stating keep away was for scrubs and 'boring' and doesn't do anything whereas rushdown combo's were the bee's knees only way to play if you wanna be 'cool'.

My point about Wolverine and Sentinel was that if you just stand there trying to go see who can rush forward and land a combo first, it's pretty silly when Trish has the options to out manuever both chars, keep them away when they try to perform the combo's on 'you', and punish them heavily with her traps which obviously follows up with combo's. You mention Trish being Anti-Sentinel and that's pretty much exactly what i stated previously. That there's no reason for Trish to rush in on a Sentinel with full on rushdown only when her traps and mobility options already give her a crazy advantage over him to easily bait and trap him and then punish him heavily without risk to her.

Your post was pretty unwarranted because if you re-read my original post, all I said was that I was venting about the scrubby idiots who bitch about me using traps with Trish and not letting them in to do their stupid combo's on me, and send me shit tons of hatemail for beating them. No where did it state I never use combo's myself. All I complained about was the people who find DHC glitch to add even more 100% combo's off a single hit to be fair and ok, but get their pants all pissy if you make them 'work' to land that combo by shutting them out and destroying them yourself.

And in reply to that you jumped in with "Keep aways for scrubs and is boring. Combo's are where it's at. At least you're 'doing' something with those."

I mean hell, even let's say all I did was sit and spam traps an entire match and NOTHING else, and managed to win heavily with that tactic somehow. Weren't you the one who told me in the last topic to just let everyone play how they want to play and 'not' bitch about anyone's play style? Yet, here you were directly attacking one and implying that's all I do, that I'm boring, and a scrub. I'm not really sure how you could not expect someone to get offended by that?

I mean if I saw you venting about people bitching about your combo's and i went and made a stupid comment like "Those 100% combo's are boring as all hell and for scrubs. No variety in their gameplay at all. It's always the same thing looped over and over that any 5 year old could learn off youtube." I could guarantee you'd jump all over my ass in defense of yourself and get pissy over me trying to say crap about how you play.

Really not sure why you feel the need to play the elitist card and try demeaning me on nearly anything I say even when I didn't even say anything WORTH getting all high and mighty about. It's not even like I went and called DHC cheap or anything, I basically defended it otherwise outside of being sour about people being ok with that but hatemailing me for traps and whatnot.

And back to the whole keep away thing. Chars like Chris and Arthur for example, as even stated, entire gameplay is built around keep away for the most part. So if someone plays them and does that, they're 'boring' and 'not doing anything' and should focus on rushdown combo's instead? That's where my problem comes in. You're acting like if someone picks Arthur as an example, they're auto-scrub and boring etc. etc. Again, you're the one who stated people should play how they like and no one should be bitching about it. Just play how you want to play and play the game and let it be. Yet, you're being all hypocritical about a play style you personally don't like and disrespecting it and looking down on people who utilize it.

I mean seriously. What is the problem? I don't care if i played a match with you and sat the entire round flying around the screen using traps and nothing but and the match was the most boring match in the history of fighters for you. If it somehow was effective against you and you couldn't get around it, why would I 'not' keep doing it? I'm not there to entertain you during a match. Whether I can land a 100% combo on you, play keep away the entire match, or just stand there and spam a fireball non-stop, if it works on you and you can't seem to get past it and it kills you, why would I not do it? And how does it make someone less of a player for utilizing those things in a match? Doesn't mean they can't do more than that, but, if in that match they didn't 'need' to do more, why should they? Just to be flashy?

If you can't get past stuff like that, how does that make 'me' less of a player than you, for you to look down on me for using it just because it's 'boring' to you? (The me and you are in general respectively :P)

So again, I really don't see where your complaints are coming from.

I actually wouldn't care about what you say about my combos, because I'd at least be doing them. Simple or not. Let's look at a concrete definition of zoning.

Zoning is a tactic in 2D fighters usually used at mid-range or far mid-range, the purpose of which is to out-prioritize your enemy's moves. The idea is to space yourself so that you are in a position to respond to or punish any entry angle or attack of your opponent's. Ideally, you can use certain pokes and attacks to beat your opponent's attacks, punish his advances or jumps, and hopefully shut down his offensive options, while landing hits. In attempting to zone, it is important to know the properties of your own attacks as well as the attacks of your opponent, in order to find the best move to use in countering your opponent's move. The ability to predict your opponent's next move, and having good reflexes to react to that move, are also important.

Not one person whom I've played in this thread that claims to "zone" does this. All I have seen and dealt with is mindless spam and fly aways. Henceforth why I say it's boring. Daigo zones all the fucking time with Ryu, but when he sees that opening he goes for combos. If I find myself having to chase you down, especially in casuals, it's boring. Sure, I can most definitely pull a win, but I'm playing for fun, not out for blood to win so I can post on Biohaze how I "zoned" out a Sentinel and Wolverine.

Either way, all I actually attempted was to broaden your mindset on how to play Trish and Dormammu in other ways. If you find that keepaway is effective, go for it. But I find it very tasteless to boast about your keepaway that works only on scrubby Sentinels and Wolverines.

And final say on this whole affair, and this is not directed at anyone in particular, if you think you're good and you think your zoning, keepaway, spam, rushdown, whatever is effective... Then put up or shut up. At times when I do come on here, I see complaints, issues, rants, and/or bragging. This is the competitive thread, so I invite anyone to personally take me on and demonstrate to me these skills. The gamer tag is to the left.

One more thing MK 9 > MvC3

When did I brag or say I was amazing for doing keep away or zoning? You of all people should know very well I NEVER claim to be great at anything. The ONLY thing I said was that I was frustrated with people sending me hatemail when I 'do' win against them with those tactics. That is not bragging. The closest to bragging I even stated was:

Quote:
I mean, I don't care one way or another. I still play for fun and have 476 ranked wins so I can't say too much. Just can't stand when all the so called 'pro's' on the game bitch me out for beating them with keep-away and zoning which I had to work incredibly hard to maintain and continue to deal damage to them.

All that said was that I won enough games and have played long enough that their stupid 'n00b' 'no skill pussy' etc. comments don't really mean too much other than it's annoying to hear constantly. And I even labeled it with 'so-called-pros' which does not mean I'm fighting tournament worthy Justin Wong's, Marn's or Clockw0rks. Only that I'm fighting people who 'think' they're pro and amazing with high win ratios and trashing on me when they lose.

As far as 'broadening' my horizon, feel free to mention different tactics or good ways to play my chars. I'm all for it and trying new things. I learn new stuff constantly and am always looking to improve my game. It's just the way you come across with your responses to me that gets arguments started because you always seem to try and take personal shots and jabs or play the elitist card. V and Dizzy usually take a neutral approach and correct mistakes or offer counter points without being dicks about it while showing understanding and respect towards others opinions. That's why you never see me getting into arguments and yelling at them :P

Quote:
I actually wouldn't care about what you say about my combos, because I'd at least be doing them

We both know if I had said something like that to you about your combos you would have replied bitching me out and calling me a scrub for thinking like that and went on to explain about how combo's are the core of the gameplay etc. etc.

So the 'I wouldn't care' line doesn't mean much because we both know you 'would' have replied without a doubt if i had blasted your combo's being repetitive and 'boring' etc. etc. (Hell, you reply jumping on my ass to far less so :P) Which was my point as to why I got hissy about your comment towards me.

And lastly, again regarding the 'boring' stuff. Again I can't stress enough your own comments about letting people play how they want and not bitching about it as well as the fact I'm not there to entertain you.

If we played a match and all I did was sit and spam a projectile the entire match, win or lose, if that's what I chose to do, that's how I chose to play. Who are you to demean it? You can offer suggestions on how to improve my game, but, especially if somehow spamming hadoukens won a match against you, who are you to bitch and complain about it?

When people spam Neutralize's against me with assists and hyper sentinel force, or play keep away with deadpool and spam guns and pineapple surprises while constantly running away, I don't bitch and complain or call them cheap or pathetic or say they suck at the game. It's pretty easy to beat but I don't go 'lol scrub' when I win. And if they manage to actually beat me using those tactics I don't go 'fucking scrub' and get pissy about it. I might be a little frustrated sure, but, it's more at my own stupidity in falling for that crap and not getting around it. I just learn from it and don't let it happen again.

Just the same when I get caught in a 100% combo I don't bitch and complain and cry foul because I can't move and get out of it. I just deal. Only time I'll get pissy with someone is if they start taunting and teabagging simply because I despise arrogance :P

So all in all, offer suggestions, offer strategies, fill me in on things I may not know. But, when it's all said and done, let people play how they want and stop looking down on people for not being as awesome sauce as you are.

I'll say straight out my controller sucks and it's impossible to do a Z motion from the left side of the screen for me (Which obviously hinders Dormammu's ability to teleport reliably and tron's ability to use King Kobun or Bonne Strike reliably, or Trish's ability to extend round Harvest reliably). I also have a hard time doing the really complex combos as my timings are terrible for them. So I'll never be able to pull off reliable 100%'s, DHC's etc. And I can't afford a stick right now. This highly limits my gameplay so I do my best to play how I can, deal with other chars crap how I can, and try to setup the combo's I can pull off.

If you find my playstyle 'boring' and 'scrubby' what can I say? But again, who are you to really be judging and what does it matter how I play? I'm not here to impress you or entertain you as I said. I just play for fun and try to improve the best I can with what I can do.

I can do without the arrogance and elitism, that's all.

Thank you and Best Regards to all.

I actively use Chris and Wesker on MvC3 because they're both really strong and fun to play but Jill, I pretty much never touch her because I just don't care for her gameplay at all. She feels like a crappier version of X-23 to me, and I enjoy playing X-23. I know she's powerful and all, just doesn't really click well with me for some reason is all.

Also, Chris Vs Jill intro and win quotes are really really terrible.

One thing I forgot to say: you do know that what's displayed in that Trish video doesn't only work with Zero?

For the most part, Trish can DHC into anyone with a super that doesn't directly hit the opponent. There are a few examples of characters that have moves that hit or have projectiles that can be DHC'd into as well.

For example, Arthur (armor super), Wesker (counter super whiff), Dante, (devil trigger), Hsien ko (super armor), Wolvie (berserker), and I think you can DHC into Sent (HSF, yeah I know its bs) and Tron's king kobun. There are several more characters that you can DHC into.

It may be "cheesy" but if people are already complaining about your playstyle online, you may as well add it to your game. It doesn't even look hard to do.

Ah, well the video only showed Zero, and showed it twice, both times with Zero (they usually show it with multiple chars etc. to show it off and the variety in it), so I simply assumed it was a Trish + Zero setup. I stand corrected. I already Maximum Voltage cancel into a Chaotic Flame when Trish is low on health and I need to get Dormammu in safe so this might be a better viable option if it actually works with him anyway (probably not. only watched the video once yesterday so I forget what the conditions were). We'll see what happens.

Edit: Dur, ignore what I just said. Chaotic flame would be a waste. I'll have to try it with Tron or something to make use of the reset for her combo's. Not that I'm any amazing expert at Tron combo's but I can pull a few off so hopefully it'll be worth it, we'll see.

Dorm, sure, but Trish isn't a 100% zoning character. She can really do whatever she wants.

you can technically do it with anyone, but you have to use xfactor, so it's kind of a waste. You can try stalking flare (is that the name of the homing fireball super?) as a dhc and use some pillars afterward or a teleport. I was trying to figure it out myself, but I couldn't get it to work. Probably best to use someone like wesker somewhere in your team. Dunno. But Tron should work okay.

Why don't you have money for a stick? You can find low end Hori and Madcatz sticks for under $50. If you work, it's not that much to save up for. If you can buy new games, you can buy a stick. It sounds like it would help your execution. Saying that you can't do reverse srk motions is the silliest thing ever. Take that step.

Shit, I could even build one for you if I get my hands on a case.
