I'm creating this thread to discuss about the date when Raccoon City was destroyed. I'm aware that probably some think that this event took place on Octorber 1st (I'll include myself on this group), and some other that this happened on October 2nd.

I also checked Biohaze series timeline and is said that this event happened on October 1st.

Any of you guys mind to elaborate about the sources that point to one date or another, and your opinion about it?

There is a long time (2 years or so) since I discussed about this. All replies will be very appreciated.

Yeah, there's just this little thing that bothers me:

Quote:
October First. Night. I woke up to the sound of falling rain.
I can’t believe I’m still...alive.

But, English isn't my native language. It's possible that "night" actually mean "dawn"?

October 1st was when the "Decisions, Decisions" scenario took place in Outbreak, right?

According to the Raccoon City Case Details, the date is October 2nd. Dawn of October 2nd, of course.
Quote:
October 2: Early this morning, Jill and Carlos escape Raccoon City by helicopter. Immediately after, the Army carries out the "sterilization operation" and begins the missile strike. Raccoon City disappears from the earth.

I honestly don't even know what to believe right now.

Speaking from a logical perspective, it is dawn on October 2nd. The mistake comes from Wesker's Report. It was the first source to use the October 1st date, and most of the rest followed suit since. But Jill's monologue makes it pretty clear that it can't be the 1st.

If the clocks in the game itself are to be believed, Jill awakens around 10pm on October 1st. The clocks in the abandoned plant are all around 4/5am, extremely accurate.

But yeah, it's a contentious issue and I don't see it being resolved anytime soon.

^This. Now I understand. To make it even more clear, Jill woke up at the church when it was October 1st. If it was night, it is not even remotely possible that the city was detonated on the dawn of October 1st unless there was wormhole involved. Which is actually funny, considering you did fight a worm in RE3.

But Jill could wake up at say 1AM on October 1st where it would obviously still be dark outside.
1AM would still classify as being 'night' rather than 'day' for instance. It is just a poor choice of words on Jill's part, just like at the start of the game where she says 'September 28th, daylight.' rather than 'morning'.

Plus if she wakes up at 10pm on October 1st then that is exactly 70 hours she has been unconscious in the church, two hours short of three whole days. It was bad enough Carlos not doing anything to help Jill for two days never mind three. All October 2nd does is add another 24 hours of Carlos doing nothing and Nemesis failing to return.

Despite what may have been originally intended, current canon is down as October 1st and that appears to be what Capcom is sticking to.

Quote:
"Even after the mansion incident had ended, the "cannibal disease" (T-virus) had spread to Raccoon City, plunging it into a state of panic. The city was quarantined, while R.P.D. officers and U.B.C.S. soldiers attempted to rescue its citizens. The situation grew more and more desperate and the possibility of the virus spreading beyond the quarantine was growing.
The U.S. government was concerned and called a nationwide conference to discuss the next step. They formulated a plan for the complete eradication of the city. In compliance, on October 1st, 1998, the military launched a strategic missile into the heart of the city. Raccoon City, with its 100,000 inhabitants, was forever wiped from the face of the earth."

That is from Eradication Operation Notes from Umbrella Chronicles, in-game evidence.
