2002 UNOFFICIAL EVENTS REDA – GAME SLEEVE It’s been nearly four years since the US Government began it’s crackdown on Umbrella. The company’s worldwide influence has plummeted and with the anti-Umbrella agencies and ex-STARS members getting ever closer, the corporation is now forced to conduct many of its still illegal activities away from the mainland.
Umbrella scientists succeed in fusing the T and G viruses so that it now has electrical properties. The first Tyrant created using this new virus, the T-091 is a failure as an essential organ had to be exposed and the researchers conclude there is much room for improvement. For the T-092 version, the researchers make a breakthrough and are finally able to achieve a high voltage current, which was their initial goal. Its electromagnetic barrier should make it near invulnerable. The researchers now need an ideal human candidate for this experiment. Also created with this new virus variant is a new type of Hunter
dubbed ‘Elite’. Both these new BOWS will be marketed to various
countries around the world later in the year. REDA – FREIGHT CREWMAN’S DIARY A freight crewman boards the Spencer Rain for his new job, which is due to set sail the next day.
REDA - UNOFFICIAL EVENTS 2003 REUC – UMBRELLA’S END 1 WESKER’S EXTRA REPORT Umbrella are preparing to arm the less unstable regions of the world with their bio-weaponry, and following the loss of the Spencer Rain the previous year, the Russian Base will now be used as the place to develop marketable BOW. REUC – UMBRELLA’S END 2: JANUARY Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine discover information on Umbrella’s Russian Base and rumours of a super new bio organic weapon. They begin to plan an operation to investigate. This information was probably provided anonymously by Wesker as he plans on using Chris to help him steal all the information on Umbrella’s mainframe.
WESKER’S EXTRA REPORT Three miles away from the chemical plant, there is a small village. Some of the BOW have escaped into the region and attacked the village. The locals are all stirred up and afraid as they believe a horrible legendary monster called the Almas has been reborn. REUC – MEMO ON THE FOUNDING OF UMBRELLA Despite the growing pressure on Umbrella, Ozwell Spencer writes a letter to shareholders, employees and customers thanking them for their continued support and financial input as well as their loyalty in difficult times. Since the idea of Umbrella was born forty years ago, they have followed their principles and delivered safety and peace of mind to medical centres and homes around the world. He also adds that the company’s other founding members Edward Ashford and James Marcus would be extremely proud of all the world the corporation has achieved up until now. In a seeming plea of public support, Spencer pledges that Umbrella will continue to do their best to spur innovation and make the world a better place for everyone. WESKER’S EXTRA REPORT BIOHAZARD COMIC Chris’ biohazard containment team learn of the village and receive reports of a ‘mutant wolf’ that has attacked it. He and Jill decide to drive up and investigate. There they meet a little girl named Anna and learn that the ‘mutant wolf’ is in fact a product of Umbrella. Its victims have become infected by the T-Virus. These leads point to the fact that the Russian base might be the key Umbrella facility they have been looking for. They appeal to the Russian government for authorisation to launch a strike operation. REUC – UMBRELLA’S END 1: FEBRUARY 17TH LATE NIGHT REUC – DARK LEGACY 1 Chris and Jill’s biohazard containment team are waiting for the go-ahead by the Russian government to mount an attack on Umbrella’s Russian facility. Sergei Vladimir learns of this and with little choice, therefore decides to scatter the T-virus all over the base and letting loose all of the BOW in a bid to stop anyone getting to Umbrella. However, Chris and Jill’s unit must have been monitoring the base and they learn of the biohazard that is occurring and are forced to leave on their mission early, they cannot afford to wait any longer for authorisation from the Russian government as they cannot let Umbrella get away with this. THE RUSSIAN BASE INCIDENT: 18TH FEBRUARY 2003. REUC – DARK LEGACY 1: FEBRUARY 18TH 02:50AM In the Caucasus region of Russia, three miles away from a local village, Albert Wesker strides confidently across the white, snow-capped tundra, oblivious of the cold and snowstorm blazing around him. Ahead of him, is Umbrella’s Russian Base, home of Sergei Vladimir and more importantly, the Umbrella Main Frame 013 protected by the Red Queen AI. At that moment, he knows the base is going to hell. He checks his watch, which gives him a video link to a mole that is planted in Chris and Jill’s Biohazard containment team. Everything is on schedule, his plan is to let Jill and Chris fight with TALOS and distract Sergei, allowing him to steal the UMF data for himself. Discarding his coat, he sprints towards the base at inhuman speed. Deep within the bowels of the facility, Red Queen is tracking Wesker’s movements and Sergei watches him on a monitor, comparing him to a little black cockroach. Red Queen informs him of a level 4 biohazard outbreak which has resulted in 90% of the research staff being wiped out. Estimated survival rate in the contaminated areas is less than 2%. Sergei knows they have to abandon the base, yet with TALOS and the Red Queen they can easily start over somewhere else. He orders the computer to reset TALOS’ activation sequence as it needs to be operational before the Russian Government arrives. Sergei’s thoughts are further distracted when the Queen informs him that two helicopters are approaching the base at high speed from the North West. It seems they are arriving earlier than first anticipated. He will enjoy this challenge. REUC – UMBRELLA’S END 1 The two helicopters contain members of a biohazard containment team, including ex-STARS members Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. It seems they have had to leave early as they couldn’t wait any longer for authorisation to go from the Russian government. The pilot of the lead chopper spots a pack of Hunters running across the snow and obliterates them with the aircraft’s cannons. He radios through to Chris that bio weaponry has been spotted and already made it to the surface. Chris, studying plans of the base’s layout, orders his team to prepare for landing. As the two teams zip line down into various parts of the base, Chris and Jill immediately encounter a horde of zombies made up from former facility employees. Running up some nearby stairs, Chris takes them all out by shooting a fuel barrel yet the gantry they are on is not safe as they are set upon by a pack of Cerberus and a hunter. Dropping down a ladder back onto surface level, they see yet more zombies on the other side of a chain link fence baying for their blood. They move down into a tunnel running underneath the base where more zombies await. Chris starts to receive transmissions over the radio that other team members have had first contact with the BOW roaming the base. The creatures in the tunnel seem to be made up of former construction workers though some of the zombies have been infected with V-Act, causing them to mutate into crimson heads. The end of the tunnel brings them back out into the storm as another team member reports he is out of ammo and that is shortly followed by a harrowing scream. The zombies seem to be everywhere and they are accompanied by more Cerberus which must have formerly been facility guard dogs. Chris spots another fuel barrel to blow up another group of them, prompting Jill to comment on the nice fireworks. Moving on, they discover an open hatch leading into the bowels of the facility or some steps leading up to the platforms on the upper levels. Chris isn’t too keen on the hatch as the lighting is poor and anything could be lurking down there. They agree to take the stairs and move on up. More radio reports come in from other team members, some reporting injuries but despite the large number of BOW encountered, the mission seems to be going okay so far. The snow storm shows no sign of letting up as Chris and Jill reach the top of the base although save for a few hunters and crimson heads, the upper levels seem to be deserted. However, another report comes through from the second team stating that casualties are mounting and that they need to fall back. One contacts Chris directly telling them that they are near a vent that will get them inside the facility. Chris spots it and Jill isn’t so keen, letting Chris go take point, no ladies first this time? Sliding down the steep shaft, they crash into a pile of crates at the bottom and emerge to find themselves at the top of a colossal warehouse. Peering over the railing below, there are dozens of zombies shuffling around on the bottom letting Chris know that they have reached the right place. Jill seems a little on edge and Chris asks if she is okay. She tells him it is nothing and that they should move on. They take the stairs down towards the ground level. The floor is littered with packing crates and cargo containers and as they explore, a large steel crane comes hurtling towards them forcing them to dive out of the way as it shoots past and crashes into the wall behind them. Someone knows they are here… Moving on, dodging the slow moving zombies and avoiding creepy infected spiders making their way slowly down the walls. They find the body of Bronson, one of their comrades but they have no time for mourning. They take his weapons and Jill says they have to keep going and they cannot let his death be in vain. The ex-STARS members need all of their skill to destroy several packs of hunters in a sudden ambush. Chris cannot believe how many of them there are but this just reinforces Jill’s belief that they are in the right place. Once they are all dead, Chris consults the blueprints of the facility as Jill investigates the floor, which is made up from a giant Umbrella logo. Jill spots something and Chris realises it is a lift to the lower levels. Activating the control, they begin their decent into hell, Chris vowing that the nightmare ends here and now. REUC – DARK LEGACY 1 At the other side of the base, Wesker works his way through an underground train station and uses a train car to ride further into the bowels of the facility. However, at the end of the tunnel, the turntable has not been raised and he is forced to slam on the brakes, leaving the train car teetering on the edge. Using his new powers, Wesker jumps down from level to level until he reaches the bottom. Moving in, he is stopped in his tracks by Sergei, and the two face each other. It seems Sergei is remaining loyal to Umbrella until the very end and that he believes all the difficulty Umbrella has had to endure over recent years has helped make the company stronger. He says it’s a shame Wesker could not have understood that when he was still with them. He then sets not one, but two Ivan bodyguards on the former STARS commander, taunting that Russia is a perfect place for Wesker’s final resting spot. He then leaves Wesker to battle the Tyrants. However, since their last meeting at the training facility back in 1998, Wesker has increased in strength thanks to the virus given to him by Birkin and he is more than a match for the two tyrants. REUC - UMBRELLA’S END 2 The concealed elevator leads to a point hundred’s of yards beneath the Earth’s surface to an imposing facility designed with the exclusive purpose of mass producing BOWs. Chris mocks that Umbrella are up to their old tricks and Jill thinks that they have finally reached the right place and that it is hiding something important. Judging by the sheer size and expense of the base, it is obviously not just some warehouse. They pass through a worker’s locker room and a decontamination shower littered with bodies before emerging into a slickly designed maze of corridors. Jill asks Chris what he thinks of the rumours about a super new BOW to which he responds they should find out soon enough. Chimeras and lickers emerge from vent shafts as it becomes clear Umbrella has no control over this place. It is too dangerous for further exploration and so they make for the nearest door. They emerge into a tunnel which is half submerged in extremely cold and fast flowing water. Steps lead out the other side to another door, they don’t have much choice but to wade through the iciness, a task made even worse when they see the water is full of Neptune sharks. They have to be careful however as the water flows so fast, one slip and they would be swept away. Eventually however, they reach the door at the far end. They have entered a disposal facility where automated machines are dropping BOW storage tubes into a huge furnace. Jill wonders why they would destroy their own products and Chris can only guess that anything that doesn’t pass all the BOW requirements gets toasted. The lighting is poor in here and so they have to use their flashlights. A team member radios through to say that the factory has been secured, although they have suffered many casualties. Passing through more corridors they come across an active security system that uses lasers to try to destroy any intruders. After acrobatically avoiding the defence system, Jill thinks they must be getting close to something very important. However, the door the security system was protecting and they cannot gain access, tripping an alarm in the process. They are forced to retreat back and take another door which leads into a giant testing room. Computers, monitors and databanks flash the words ‘Alert’ and after taking out another group of monsters, they find another elevator which takes them even further down into the depths of the facility, just how far down can this place go? REUC – DARK LEGACY 1 Thanks to the virus coursing round his veins, Wesker is able to match the Ivans for both speed and agility. Leaping impossible heights and shooting at the exposed heads, Wesker finally kills both Tyrant models. He then moves on in search of Sergei and the computer room. REUC – UMBRELLA’S END 3 As the elevator reaches the bottom, they pass through a deserted control room, it truly seems like no one is left alive down there. However in the next room, Chris accidentally activates a set trap which almost results in them being crushed by three steel containers. Luckily, they manage to dive out of the way just in time. As they continue to cautiously move forward, they are attacked by more hunters who jump down from gantries up above. Moving through the next door, they emerge into a series of identical small hexagonal rooms, designed to confuse intruders. More crimson heads lurk within these rooms and Chris and Jill are extremely careful in shooting them down. REUC – DARK LEGACY 2 Moving on through the base, Wesker finds an elevator that has already gone down and correctly deducts that Chris and Jill must be ahead of him. Using his powers, he ascends down the elevator shaft dodging spiders and eliminators as he goes. He reaches the room where Chris activated the trap and Wesker notes that they are causing quite the distraction, everything is going exactly as he planned. Leaping over the gap left by the damage, he enters the door at the far end and reaches the upper level hexagonal rooms. REUC – UMBRELLA’S END 3 Eventually, they find the exit and sprint down a long corridor before finding themselves in a huge testing chamber. This must finally be the place. Sergei Vladimir has been expecting them and welcomes them over the speaker system. He tells them that as fellow soldiers, they should enjoy the thrill and excitement of battle and Chris realises they are dealing with another Umbrella psycho. Sergei thumbs a button and unleashes TALOS, the latest in Umbrella’s product line and the pinnacle of biological weaponry. It is armed with a rocket launcher and is covered in armour, so Chris and Jill aim for its head. After a tense fire fight, in which TALOS’s rockets destroy half the room, they manage to knock it down. As Talos falls for the first time, Sergei explains that unfortunately TALOS is out of control and that the T-Virus inside its body will continue to mutate it till even a God cannot control it. As if on cue, the tyrant mutates and a huge tentacle spouts out of its back and locks onto the ceiling, suspending it in the air. Discarding the rocket launcher, it now has two huge claws each with powerful talons. REUC – DARK LEGACY 2 As Sergei continues to explain TALOS’ abilities over the speakerphone to Chris and Jill, he spots Wesker on a monitor walking up the steps towards his command centre. He doesn’t seem too surprised he is still alive and as Wesker enters, gun pointed, Sergei congratulates him on defeating Ivan. Wesker is interested in the Red Queen now that he has finally seen it for himself. Sergei informs him that the AI bonded with TALOS, desiring more information and more data; she wanted to know the truth, no matter how painful it was to uncover. She was activated that night at the Spencer mansion, and Sergei himself extracted her from the lab in Raccoon before it went up. Wesker taunts Sergei, telling him all the Red Queen is is a tool, and that it only wants what the user determines for it. Sergei is not bothered. He tells Wesker it is good they can be honest with each other, that it is the sign of a healthy relationship. It is such a shame that this friendship has to end. Sergei then suddenly morphs into a powerful creature and Wesker realises he must have injected himself with a virus. They fight, Wesker mocking Sergei’s lack of creativity whilst Sergei retorts that Wesker is nothing more than a little black rat. Sergei tells him how he was a suitable host for a Tyrant and that ten clones of him were created in order to create more tyrants, they are his brothers. Because of all this, Spencer gave him a home within Umbrella. Wesker demands to know where Spencer is, but Sergei will not tell him, he can take all the pain Wesker can ever throw at him. However, Wesker is just too strong. REUC – UMBRELLA’S END 3 Meanwhile, as the battle with TALOS rages on below, Jill spots a tear in its skin and suggests they shoot for that. Eventually, they discover its weak spot, and soon they are able to destroy the TALOS for good. After the mighty Tyrant finally dies, they realise it is finally over. The TALOS project Umbrella had placed so much faith in had failed. REUC - DARK LEGACY 2: EPILOGUE As the Sergei monster dies before him, Wesker calmly walks over to the computer terminal where Sergei is still logged in and proceeds to download the entire Umbrella archives database from the UMF 13 onto a hard disk, which he pockets, knowing it will definitely come in handy sometime soon. Looking at the monitors, he see’s that Chris and Jill have managed to defeat the TALOS, just as he predicted. Wesker then formats the whole mainframe and erases all the data from it, all the BOW information, data and virus properties, forty years of work gone in just eighty seconds, and with it, the end of the Red Queen artificial intelligence. He bids the dead queen a fond farewell and prepares to leave the base, the only surviving copy of Umbrella’s data now in his hands. Once outside and careful not to run into any of Chris’ troops, he watches the sun rise. He knows that Umbrella are now gone forever. They had such an awesome weapon in the T-Virus, but they lacked the proper vision, and now it falls to him to usher in this new future. REUC – UMBRELLA’S END 3: EPILOGUE Emerging into the morning air, the snowstorm has ceased and Jill watches the morning sun come up as the first helicopter takes off, evacuating the wounded. Chris comes over to her and says that Umbrella are done for, they have struck a fatal blow. However Jill knows it is still not finished yet and Chris agrees his face grim. Wesker is still out there somewhere, and until he is dead, it can never be truly over. As the survivors of the containment unit round up and dispose of any remaining BOW, they begin an extensive search of the base. One team member comes across the UMF 13 and looks more than a little shocked when it reveals that all data has been erased.
REUC – DARK LEGACY 2: AFTERMATH Following the aftermath of the Russian incident, evidence recovered by the biohazard containment teams at the factory provide almost near proof that Umbrella was responsible for the viral outbreak in Raccoon City five years ago and so the case is reopened. The Russian Ministry of the interior in co-operation with the FBI launch a manhunt for Ozwell Spencer, who is forced to go into hiding. Wesker, acting anonymously, provides evidence to the authorities that Spencer played a large part in the biohazard which contaminated Raccoon City five years ago. With Umbrella’s only living founder now a fugitive, there is no one left to fight the company’s battle, and Umbrella is finished off for good. Wesker, with all of Umbrella’s BOW Archives on file as well as samples of the T, G and T-Veronica viruses, stands ready to re-shape the world, his new found goal to re-establish Umbrella with himself in charge. He mocks Spencer who is now a fugitive in the world he sought to control, and is confident they will meet again at some point in the future so that Spencer can learn of the history Wesker will create for this new world. REUC – ONLINE INTERVIEW WITH ANTI-UMBRELLA ACTIVIST SARA BRIGHTON Following the dramatic final end to Umbrella. An online interview is conducted between the media and an influential member of one of the worldwide anti-Umbrella agencies which formed after the Raccoon incident of 1998. Even though Umbrella is now gone, she is unsure the people’s ordeal is really over. Reporter: The trial is the talk of the internet, and queries on popular search engines continue to make the top three list. However, there are many who raise their eyebrows at your battle against the multinational corporation as carrying things too far. What is your opinion on this? Sara: Umbrella is not just another out-for-profit corporation; they are a powerful organisation closely resembling an army or a country. We have no choice but to wage war this way on a company trying to cover up the truth. We have battled in court for almost half a decade now to reach a verdict against Umbrella, and we would do it again if given the choice. Reporter: So you’re the David fighting the Goliath of Umbrella. However, now that a decision has been handed down, the problem’s solved, right? Sara: One problem was solved, but some doubt still remains, and I feel it’s too early to celebrate our victory. Reporter: Doubt? And what doubt would that be? Sara: There are two questions we need to ask ourselves. First, why is it that it has taken so long for evidence against Umbrella to appear? Why now? Second, why is the nature of that evidence still being concealed to this day? Reporter: There are a lot of popular theories flying around about that one. Sara: Take a look at the court records. It seems as if the evidence was data being stored on a computer. Umbrella must have been hiding it right to the very end. The most likely reason none of this evidence has gone public is that it contains information that would incriminate many world governments, including our own. This evidence is also rumoured to have been acquired from dealings with an anti-social organisation. Reporter: But Umbrella’s gone. Certainly that means the biggest menace is out of the way, right? Sara: Have the wrongdoings of Umbrella come to light? Certainly. But all of the data on virus production and biological weaponry has not. I don’t feel the data has been erased, but that it has ended up in someone’s hands, someone who will inherit Umbrella’s dark legacy. Reporter: Inheriting a dark legacy? That sounds like something out of a TV show. Sara: It’s easy to laugh and dismiss it as some movie-of-the-week story. However, if there is any chance that such a possibility is true, it is worth our concern. Humans can be foolish creatures. Even after witnessing the destructive might that wiped out an entire city, someone could still steal that power and try to use it to further their own ambitions, regardless of the price to be paid. Umbrella may only be the beginning of this nightmare. The mystery surrounding the court decision makes that much pretty obvious. REUC - WESKER’S NOTES ON DIFFERING MUTATIONS In his new base of operations where he has been extensively studying all of Umbrella’s archives, Wesker formulates some ideas on the effects of the various viruses. Having watched what happened to Sergei and studied what happened to Marcus, he believes the host’s mindset appears to influence the evolution of the virus. Although he has no proof of this, he wonders that if personality of the host really does affect the course of virus manifestation, what does that say about himself? ADA’S REPORT UNOFFICIAL EVENTS Wesker decides his ultimate goal is to re-establish Umbrella with himself at the helm. That would be the ultimate way to humiliate Spencer. He begins to distance himself from ‘The Organisation’ and makes ties with another major pharmaceutical company known as ‘S’, knowing he has plenty of bargaining power with the only copy of Umbrella’s archives at his disposal. However, ‘The Organisation’ begins to become suspicious of his activities and begin an undercover investigation into his movements. They know he works closely with Ada Wong and they approach Ada to get her to report back to them about what he is up to. This will prove Ada’s loyalty to ‘The Organisation’ and vastly improve her standing in the bigger picture. 2004
RE – INCUBATE In rural Spain there is a small village overlooked by the Salazar castle which is now being run by the 8th Castellan, Ramon Salazar. The blood-ties in the village are strong and the people living there work very hard and enjoy a simple life. The people living there treasure their children and often reminisce about the first Castellan and what a great man he was. However, the villagers are a bit unsure about the current Lord, Ramon. The people are hoping for a good harvest this year the fruits of which they can sell to the neighbouring town for a good price so they can buy amenities that are not usually available to the village such as gasoline. RE4 – GAME Osmund Saddler, leader of the Los Illuminados religious group, makes contact with Ramon Salazar. He promises Salazar more power if he agrees to undo the seal that is holding the Las Plagas parasites trapped deep beneath his castle. Salazar agrees and hires workers from the local village to help excavate the castle foundations. RE4 – GAME Former RPD officer Leon S. Kennedy completes his intensive training and becomes a fully fledged US Government Agent.
RE – INCUBATE: SPRING It is the day of the harvest festival at the village and all the people are in celebration. However, they are puzzled as to why the chief of the village, Bitorez Mendez, has not shown up this year. The villagers conclude he is probably working with the priest in the church and cannot make it.
RE – INCUBATE As the villagers all gather at the church one Sunday, the village chief hands over to Lord Saddler, who has come to the village to deliver a sermon. Instead of trying to purify the sinful blood of heathens such as them, he tried to teach them how to cleanse their souls and find the real way to happiness. He tells them the Los Illuminados were there to protect them. But in order to purify their blood they had to put an end to their unclean bloodline. One by one, all the villagers lined up to receive the sacred new blood and are injected with Las Plagas parasites.
RE – INCUBATE In the following days, the children of the village begin to get sick with their bodies suffering painful spasms and foaming from the mouths. The adults begin to suffer searing headaches and outbreaks of extreme anger. It appears a child’s body cannot cope with the Las Plagas parasite and once the eggs hatch they die. Soon, all the children in the village are dead.
RE – INCUBATE One of the villagers writes how the villagers are slowly going mad and are losing all sense of emotion. Some refused to eat, whilst others went around doing strange things, muttering obscenities. The villager also notes that this morning he also coughs up blood.
RE4 – GAME Lord Saddler and the Los Illuminados cult recruit some of the villagers to help construct a facility on their own private island. The complex will house a laboratory, barracks and a dock. RE – INCUBATE With the villagers now totally succumbed to the Las Plagas parasites, they receive a message from Bitorez Mendez. He warns them that Lord Saddler’s life may be in danger and that any intruders to the villagers must be killed on sight. The head of one of the men splits in two…
ADA’S REPORT: SUMMER SEPARATE WAYS Luis Sera, a scientific researcher who later claims to be an ex-cop from Madrid, returns to his native village in rural Spain do discover that his fellow villagers have fallen foul of a strange plague which has turned everyone homicidal and make them attack any intruders. He meets up with Osmund Saddler, leader of the Los Illuminados cult who reveals that the villagers have been infected by a parasite called Las Plagas. He recruits Luis as a researcher under the guise of helping him find a way of removing the parasite safely. However, what Luis doesn’t know is that Saddler is the mastermind behind the whole plot, and is instead using Luis’ research to make it nearly impossible for the eggs to be removed once injected into the body. Although fascinated by the properties of the plaga, Luis begins to suspect something is amiss with Saddlers true intentions and he sends an urgent e-mail to an academic friend from college, telling him all about what is happening and asking for his help. However, his friend has been murdered and his e-mail is intercepted by ‘The Organisation’; the shadowy group Albert Wesker and Ada Wong work for. The Organisation put Wesker in charge of recovering a plaga sample. Wesker believes acquiring a sample would be a huge step towards his own personal goal of reviving Umbrella and plans to keep any recovery for himself, although unbeknownst to him, both Ada and The Organisation are aware of his plans and Ada wants to get the sample as a way of proving her loyalty to The Organisation. RE4 – KRAUER’S NOTE UNOFFICIAL EVENTS Jack Krauser is sent to Spain under direct orders from Albert Wesker to infiltrate the Los Illuminados cult to find out information and ultimately retrieve a sample of the Las Plagas parasite. RE4 – GAME The US President’s daughter, Ashley Graham, is abducted whilst she is one her way home from university in Massachusetts. RE4 – INFO ON ASHLEY Following a US internal investigation into Ashley’s kidnapping, reliable evidence has been uncovered that the perpetrator may have been an insider. Only a handful of people know about the incident and it is being kept under wraps as they cannot determine who the traitor is. However, all members of the Secret Service have been questioned by an investigative team. RE4 – KRAUSER’S NOTE ADA’S REPORT The cult’s leader Osmund Saddler, is suspicious of Krauser however and despite kidnapping the President’s daughter, Saddler still isn’t convinced about his motivations and so Krauser has no choice but to contact Wesker for back-up. He will send in Ada Wong. They contact Luis and tell him that if he can steal a plaga sample, they will rescue him. Luis complies and hides the sample in the woods surrounding the village. Whilst all this is going on, Leon S. Kennedy, now a fully fledged US Government agent, is given his first mission of protecting the President’s family, which is to begin by rescuing his daughter, Ashley. Following up on leads that she has been sighted in rural Spain, he arrives not long after. THE LAS PLAGAS INCIDENT: AUTUMN 2004 RE4 – INTRO A jeep is moving through the woods on a misty autumn morning. Inside are two Spanish policemen and Leon Kennedy, embarking on his first mission as a US Agent. The two cops seem amused at the whole little adventure but Leon replies he is counting on their help. They pull over for a toilet break and as one of the cops goes into the bushes, he fails to notice that he is being watched. Soon they are on their way again and after crossing an old rope bridge, they arrive on the outskirts of the village. A lone farmhouse sets on the edge of a copse of trees. Leon goes to investigate whilst the cops wait with the car. Before he leaves, he gets a call on the radio from Ingrid Hunnigan, an agent from base who will be monitoring his progress. RE4 – GAME Inside the farmhouse, a lone man is stoking a fire. Leon asks him to look at his photograph of Ashley and after being ignored at first, the man streams obscenities at him in Spanish. Leon turns to leave when suddenly the crazy man attacks him with an axe and Leon has no choice but to take him down. After getting a sense of de-ja-vu, he then has to double check to see that he definitely wasn’t a zombie. He then hears a noise outside and sees an old truck roaring down the bumpy road. As it winds round the corner out of sight we hear gunshots and tires squeaking followed by a tremendous crash as it appears both vehicles have gone down the side of the cliff. Hunnigan calls and tells him to get to the village ASAP. Outside, the police car is in flames in the river but Leon can’t see any bodies and he wonders if the two cops managed to escape. He then heads towards the village, encountering a few more crazed locals as well as a series of booby-traps, rescuing a wolf caught in a bear trap in the process. RE4 – SEPARATE WAYS At an unknown location, Albert Wesker is monitoring the village via a secret Umbrella spy satellite, now under his command following his seizure of all Umbrella’s data in Russia the previous year. As he watches, we see Ada Wong infiltrate the village, her first confirmed sighting since she was thought dead in Raccoon City six years ago. Wesker contacts her and warns that the villagers are all being controlled and will attack any intruders. He orders her to ring the church bell which should distract them. He also warns that time is short and to find out as much about the parasites as possible then get out of there. As she moves out, she sees Leon enter the village and uses her grapple gun to drop back into the shadows, heading for the church. RE4 – GAME Leon reaches the villagers and is promptly attacked as soon as he is spotted. He takes refuge in a house as a huge man wearing a sack on his head and wielding a chainsaw bears down on him. The villagers are clearly organised and surround the house, using ladders to reach the upper floor and firebombing the place to try and smoke Leon out. RE4 – SEPARATE WAYS Ada has reached the church. Behind one of the doors she can hear the whimpering of an imprisoned girl yet she does not attempt any kind of rescue. Instead she reaches the church bell and rings it. RE4 – GAME Back in the village as the bell rings, the villagers suddenly stop attacking, drop their weapons and move off in a zombie-like trance towards the sound of the bell, leaving Leon alone in the village. Bemused, he heads off, after discovering the corpse of one of the policemen burning on a stake in the village square. RE4 – ALERT ORDER Whilst searching around, Leon finds a note from the village chief confirming the villagers were expecting his arrival. The note mentions something of a prisoner and Leon is sure he has come to the right place. He moves on, past a farm and down into a valley. RE – SEPARATE WAYS Ada has reached the village chief’s mansion. It is empty and she is reading through his books for information when Wesker calls her. He informs her that Luis has been discovered by the Illuminados and captured and is being held at an abandoned house past the farm. Wesker stresses that until he retrieves the sample for them they cannot let him die. Ada hurries off to rescue him. RE4 – GAME However, it is Leon who finds Luis first, bound and gagged in a cupboard in an old fire-damage house. He frees him but before they can move they are attacked and knocked unconscious by the village chief. RE4 – SEPARATE WAYS Ada arrives too late and watches from a distance as the unconscious forms of Luis and Leon are removed from the house. RE4 – GAME Whilst unconscious, Leon is injected in the neck with a Las Plagas parasite and when he comes too, he is tied up to Luis, alone in another part of the village. He wakes Luis up and asks him about Ashley. He responds that he overheard the villagers mentioning something about the President’s daughter in the church. Luis says he is a former cop and Leon tells him about the Raccoon City incident. Luis replies that he has seen a sample of the T-Virus in his department lab. They are suddenly attacked by a Ganado with a huge axe but they mange to escape, although Luis takes off on his own. After talking to Hunnigan, Leon makes his way back towards the village where he stops off at the village chief’s mansion. RE4 – CHIEF’S NOTE Leon finds another note in the chief’s bedroom where the chief questions why Leon wasn’t to be harmed. It also mentions more paranoia about a possible third party involved other than Leon. RE4 – SEPARATE WAYS Ada reaches the mansion and grapples onto the room where she can hear Leon get ambushed by Bitores Mendez, the village chief. Mendez realises that Leon has been impregnated and leaves him alone. Leon tries to finish him off once more but the giant gets the upper hand over him but is saved when Ada fires at Mendez through the window, distracting him. Her cover blown, Ada dashes away from the house but she is ambushed by a group of villagers before being rendered unconscious by a tranquiliser dart. Mendez towers over her and orders her to be taken away. RE4 – CLOSURE OF THE CHURCH Leon moves on through the village and finds the church where Ashley is being held yet it is locked up. He finds another letter from Mendez which states that the villagers are concentrating on finding Luis rather than Leon as he has stolen something important from them. He learns there is a key for the church across the lake yet something called Del Lago guards the lake. RE4 – GAME Leon reaches the lake and spots a boat out in the middle of the water where he sees two villagers drop the corpse of the second policeman into the murky depths where it is soon devoured by a huge water serpent. Leon gets into another boat by the shore and sets off across yet the Del Lago is soon on his tail. Leon fights it off with some spears yet only just makes it to the other side alive. He starts having convulsions and collapses unconscious in a cabin. RE4 – ANONYMOUS LETTER Still on the run, Luis Sera enters the cabin and finds Leon unconscious on the floor. He writes him a note warning of a creature called El Gigante and gives him directions for the key to the church. He also says he cannot help with what is happening to his body. It is beyond his power. Luis then moves on. RE4 – GAME: NIGHT Leon eventually comes round to find Hunnigan frantically trying to contact him. Apparently he has been out for six hours but Leon reassures her he is ready to carry on. After reading the letter someone has left him he steps outside into the darkened night in the middle of a savage rainstorm. He manages to retrieve the key and heads back towards the church. Inside the church is empty and he frees Ashley from her cell, who is overjoyed to see him. He then radios Hunnigan to replies she will send the chopper out to pick them up. When they try to leave however, Osmund Saddler and two bodyguards await them downstairs. There the plot is revealed to them. Saddler has control over the plagas and Ashley has been injected with a plaga egg. She will then be sent back to the US where the egg will hatch and the parasite will spread, giving Saddler control of the US. He also coldly informs Leon that he too has been infected and that once the eggs hatch they will become his puppets. Leon grabs Ashley and they dive out the window before they are caught and make for the extraction point. RE4 – SEPARATE WAYS Ada comes to, finding herself lying on a stone slab about to be sacrificed by a group of ganados and only just escapes with her life. Realising some time has passed, she hurries to find Luis. RE4 – SERA AND THE THIRD PARTY Bitorez Mendez is becoming aggravated with the ganado’s inability to locate Luis and concludes he must be using an old secret passage taught to him by his grandfather who used to hunt in this region long ago. Mendez believes Luis has hidden the sample somewhere in the woods and is concerned at just how Luis knew he was infected and how he actually managed to remove the egg before it hatched. He also believes it is no coincidence that Luis stole the sample and vaccines just before Leon arrived at the village. He is determined to discover who the third party is in all this. RE4 – GAME Leon leads Ashley back through the village and beyond the farm. As they are crossing a rope bridge his radio crackles and Hunnigan announces that their rescue helicopter has been shot down. They are prepping another chopper, but it will take some time. Suddenly, they become aware they are being followed by a large number of Ganado. The northern route is blocked as well so they decide to barricade themselves in an old barn. Inside they run into Luis Sera, who has been hiding out there. He gives Leon a plank of wood to block the door. He challenges whether Ashley is infected. Leon tells her to hide upstairs as the Ganado lay siege to the cabin. Luis helps him barricade the windows and both men take up defensive positions. The villagers lay siege to the cabin, and Luis and Leon have to use all their skill to fend them off. Smashing the barricades and using ladders to reach the upper floor, the ganados swarm inside the barn yet suffer heavy losses due to some precision firepower from the two men. Eventually, the villagers cut their losses and retreat. Ashley comes down from her hiding place with a relieved look on her face. Leon suggests they get moving but Luis tells them he has ‘forgot something’ and will catch them up. RE4 – SEPARATE WAYS Luis steps out into the rain and spots Ada Wong waiting for him in the darkness. She wants the sample and he says he is going into the woods to get it. He wants to know who she is but she replies there are some things he is best off not knowing. Luis scoffs saying he doesn’t care as long as she gets rid of Saddler and his religious friends. With that he disappears into the woods. RE4 – GAME Meanwhile, Leon and Ashley continue to head towards the outskirts of the village but find that Chief Mendez is waiting for them. Ashley hides away whilst Leon has a final confrontation with the big man, where sustained fire damage causes the master plaga inside him to mutate into a bigger form. Leon manages to kill him and recover his glass eye, which he uses in a retinal scanner to unlock the gate leading out of the village. Another horde of ganados are soon on their tail and they head for an ominous castle on the hill, raising the drawbridge to prevent the crazed villagers from getting to them. With nowhere else to go, they head into the castle. Unfortunately, the castle’s residents are not friendly and it is populated by cultists and devil worshippers under the command of one Ramon Salazar, the castellan of the castle and who claims to be in control of the plagas. These people are the Los Illuminados. After a while, they run into Luis again who claims to have something for them until he realises he’s lost it somewhere. He turns to go back for it, saying he knows they are carriers and that the eggs have already hatched. They do not have much time. Leon looks confused at why he is trying to help them but Luis just walks away, saying it makes him feel better. Moving on, they soon find themselves under attack once more and to make matters worse, they lose contact with Hunnigan over the radio. As they probe deeper into the castle, Ashley suddenly begins to cough up blood and gets angry when Leon tries to help her. She runs away and they get separated by a huge iron gate that traps Ashley on the other side of a wall. Leon sets off to find her but only succeeds in running into Salazar who promptly sends him off on a cat and mouse chase around the various chambers of the castle. Leon finally gains access to the inner sanctum of the castle where he senses someone behind him and turns to come face to face with Ada Wong, the woman he thought had given her life for him six years ago in Raccoon City. She finds the encounter amusing but Leon isn’t at all happy to see her. It appears to confirm rumours he has heard over the last few years that she was alive and well after all and working in conjunction with Albert Wesker. He asks why she is here, why show up after all these years but she is in no mood to answer him and runs off, using a flash device in her sunglasses to get away leaving him standing there bewildered and confused. RE4 – SEPARATE WAYS Ada retreats to the garden maze outside where she gets another call from Wesker. He tells her he has been tracking Luis’ movements and that he has retrieved the sample and is back in the castle waiting for her. He also tells her to kill Leon if she encounters him. Ada protests saying he has no idea what is going on and that they should just stay out of his way. Wesker retorts that he is dangerous and as a survivor of Raccoon City he cannot be underestimated. She heads back into the castle and spots Leon in combat with a group of cultists. Even though he is outnumbered she dare not risk helping him as she can’t be seen with him. She goes on ahead without Leon ever knowing she was in the room. RE4 – FEMALE INTRUDER The Illiminados obtain photographic evidence of Ada moving through the castle. They believe that she is connected to Luis and the third party and must be captured and interrogated. RE4 – GAME Leon is searching the second floor of the castle when Luis catches up with him once more. But before Luis can help him, he is stabbed through the back by a huge tentacle connected to Osmund Saddler, who has been following him. Luis drops the sample and it falls back into Saddler’s hands. Saddler drops Luis to the floor in a pool of blood and walks off, warning Leon that Salazar will be taking care of him shortly. In his dying breath, Luis tells Leon the truth that he is a researcher who was hired by Saddler to work on the plagas. He gives Leon a bottle of tablets that should suppress growth of the parasite in his body and tells him as a matter of urgency he has to get the sample back off Saddler before closing his eyes for good. RE4 – SEPARATE WAYS Ada calls Wesker and informs him of Luis’ death and that Saddler has retrieved the sample. Wesker is calm saying that there will be another time. It seems he has had a change of heart about Leon, and decides to let him live for now. With Saddler and his men focusing on Leon, Ada can use the distraction to snatch the sample back. RE4 – GAME After mourning for Luis, Leon hears Ashley’s cries and finds her imprisoned in chains on the floor below. Using some precision sniper fire, he breaks the chains off and frees her. Ashley then navigates her way through the servants’ quarters and finding a way to meet up with Leon. Together once more, they set off to find a way out of the castle. In another room, they find a tram which transports them to various sections around the castle and as they enter a huge chamber with some kind of nest eminating from the ceiling, a horde of flying creatures appears and drags Ashley away once more. Leon runs through the castle to find her but Salazar tells her that the ritual for her becoming a Ganado has been completed and she has been transferred to Saddler’s private industrial island. Salazar, who has taken the plaga into his body, mutates and Leon is forced to use a rocket launcher acquired from a glass cabinet to kill the feisty little castellan. Leaving the castle, he finds Ada waiting for him in a boat by the dock. “Need a ride handsome?” RE4 – GAME Leon and Ada arrive at the island; Leon cannot help but stare at her, a thousand different questions going around in his mind. She seems to realise this and cannot help her smile. But before he can ask her anything, she uses her grapple gun to scale the cliffs, leaving him alone to regain control of the boat. RE4 – ASSIGNMENT ADA Moving along the cliff face, Wesker calls her once more. She still doesn’t have the sample and she tells him that Saddler knows about her. He tells her to proceed as planned and that the extraction chopper will be waiting for her. RE4 – GAME Leon infiltrates the island to find it populated by a platoon of military mercenaries, heavily armed and all plaga infected. He catches a glimpse of Ashley being escorted through a set of doors and after a fire fight, makes his way indoors. The island appears to house some kind of primitive laboratory, designed for use in plaga experiments, the results of which have been all the different creatures Leon has encountered so far. On a security monitor, he spies where Ashley is being held and proceeds to the cell to rescue her. Soon reunited, the pair jump down into the garbage compactor and enter the bowels of the facility. However, Saddler is waiting for them and uses his powers to halt Leon and command Ashley over to him, she has almost turned. As they leave, Leon manages to attach a locator onto Ashley’s back. Meanwhile, in the watchtower, Ada and Krauser are having a meeting. Ada tells Krauser Leon isn’t making things any easier and Krauser replies that Saddler knows what they are up to and is holding onto the sample personally. He adds that neither he nor Wesker trusts her and he will kill her if she tries anything clever. Ada is amused, retorting that she met Wesker long before he did before leaving. RE4 – SEPARATE WAYS As Ada runs back to the facility, Wesker calls her, pleased that Leon is causing so much trouble for Saddler and his followers. He also tells her that he has ordered Krauser to kill him and she has to retrieve the sample quickly. After signing off however, Ada heads back the other way, she doesn’t always play by Wesker’s rules. She encounters an underground dock where a huge battleship lies moored. It seems Saddler is already gearing up towards invasion. Ada fights her way across the ship, evading gun fire from the turrets and doing what she has to do to ensure the ship will never leave the island. She then hurries on to find Leon. RE4 – GAME As Leon moves on through a warehouse, he can sense movement behind him. Turning round, there is no-one there until out of the corner of his eye he can spot a blade coming towards him. He dives out of the way the blade just catching him on the cheek. His attacker is Jack Krauser, a former colleague and a man he thought dead two years ago. He is the one who kidnapped Ashley and Leon is disgusted Krauser only did it go get Saddler’s trust. Krauser taunts Leon, clearly saying too much when he tells him it has all been done for Umbrella’s sake, a name that has haunted Leon for six years. Just as Krauser appears to be getting the upper hand, Ada arrives to save Leon’s life. Krauser leaves, saying it is only a matter of time before Leon’s death. Ada disappears also, still not ready to tell Leon what her real mission is. Leon moves on, passing through a giant underground cavern complex where he takes on a creature known only as ‘It’. Ashley’s locator beacon is also lying in a puddle on the floor. Emerging back topside, Krauser is waiting for him amongst an old temple ruin. He knows where Ashley is, but he also holds the keys to the gate and so the scene is set for their final battle. Krauser is armed with a machine gun and employs several robotic sentry units. He taunts Leon, asking him who he fights for. Leon wants to know why he wants to resurrect Umbrella to which Krauser says it shall restore order and balance to the world. He demonstrates his power to Leon by having a controlled mutation in his arm which he transforms into a scythe like weapon. He also tells Leon he has rigged their battleground with explosives. They fight, and eventually Leon emerges as the victor and only just manages to escape the tower before it blows up. Moving on, he reaches the outskirts of Saddler’s inner sanctum only to find it heavily guarded by the Ganado. Unexpected help suddenly arrives however in the form of Mike, a US helicopter pilot come to help Leon. He uses twin gattling guns and rockets from his chopper to devastate the Ganado’s defences and allowing a path for Leon to slip through. RE4 – SEPARATE WAYS Ada arrives on the scene hot on Leon’s footsteps and sees Mike’s chopper up ahead causing the aerial bombing. Wesker calls her up once more who is watching the whole thing via his satellite feed. He warns her that time is almost up and she tells him that Krauser is dead. Wesker is impressed and decides to let Leon and Sadder fight it out between themselves with Ada finishing off whoever survives. She doesn’t look happy and Wesker coldly reminds her to remember who is running the show and to get the sample whatever the cost before cutting her off. RE4 – GAME As Mike shoots the last of the Ganado down, Leon radios him to say thanks when Saddler appears on the roof of the temple with a Ganado brandishing a rocket launcher. The Ganado fires at Mike’s chopper, blasting it out of the sky in a huge fireball. Leon catches a glimpse of Saddler moving off and swears to himself that he will be the next one to die. Entering the temple he runs into Ada, whom he suddenly attacks. Ada knees him in the groin and he recovers his senses, taking some more of Luis’ pills. He doesn’t have much time left and Ada says they have to get that parasite out of his body but Leon replies he has to save Ashley first. They split up once more. SEPARATE WAYS – GAME As Ada searches onwards, she bumps into Krauser, who is surprisingly still alive though looking a little worse for the wear. She uses her grapple gun to reach him and mockingly says it would be unfortunate if he turned up alive now that she has reported him dead to Wesker. They fight, with Ada easily emerging victorious and finishing Krauser off for good. RE4 – GAME Leon finally reaches Saddler’s lab, where Ashley is being held in a cultivation tank. Before he can get to her however, Saddler appears behind him and thrust-punches Leon to the ground with amazing speed akin to that of Wesker. As he prepares to finish Leon off however, Ada appears on the gantry above and empties a machine gun into his chest, knocking him backwards. Leon takes this opportunity to free Ashley from the tank where she slowly wakes up. Saddler recovers and pushes the bullets out of his body and is seemingly unharmed. Leon and Ashley run for the door and Ada tries to slow Saddler down by shooting at him some more. When it doesn’t seem to be working, she shoots some explosive barrels, blocking the door so Saddler cannot get out. SEPARATE WAYS – GAME Saddler turns his attentions to Ada and they fight. Ada finally manages to knock him down and he drops the plaga sample which she picks up eagerly. However, it seems Saddler has one final surprise for her and attacks her once more whilst her back is turned to him. RE4 – GAME Leon and Ashley reach a lab where they find some of Luis’ research notes and discover that he was working on a way to try and safely remove the plaga from the host body. A machine is set up in the centre of the room and Leon gets on it. Ashley moves to operate and despite the immense pain, the plagas in his body are destroyed. It is then Ashley’s turn and her operation is also a success before they move on looking for a way out. Eventually, they make it back outside and come to a cargo lift. Leon tells Ashley to wait at the bottom whilst he checks it out. At the top, he sees Ada tied up unconscious and Saddler waiting for him. Saddler is shocked that he cannot control Leon any more and Leon throws his knife to cut Ada free. Saddler then mutates into a final spider-like form for the final battle and advances on Leon. SEPARATE WAYS – GAME Looking for some way to help Leon, Ada spies a rocket launcher over at the other end of the construction site and uses her grapple gun to try to reach it. She kills several Ganado in the process and far below, Ashley catches a glimpse of her swinging across the scaffolding. RE4 – GAME As Leon and Saddler fight, Ada appears suddenly, brandishing the rocket launcher which she throws to Leon. He takes aim and fires at Saddler’s heart, finishing him off for good. In the aftermath Leon picks up the dropped Las Plagas sample only to find himself held at gunpoint by Ada. He cautiously hands it over to her before she turns on her heels and runs for the extraction chopper that suddenly arrives for her. Before she goes, she tosses Leon the keys to her jet ski and presses a button that activates a timer connected to explosives she has planted across the island. She tells Leon she’ll take good care of the sample before flying off into the morning sun. Leon rides the elevator down and grabs Ashley. They find Ada’s Jet Ski and make their escape from the island. RE4 – EPILOGUE Leon and Ashley escape from the island as a torrent of water comes crashing down all around them. Ashley is thrown into the water but Leon soon recovers her and they are off once more. Ashley says mission accomplished but Leon says not quite until he gets her home. She slyly offers him some ‘overtime’ which he politely declines to which she responds she knew he’d say that and she asks him who Ada was. Leon smiles and says she is just like a part of him he can’t let go of. Leaving it at that, they speed off into the sunrise. RE4 – ASSIGNMENT ADA: EPILOGUE As her escape chopper leaves Saddler’s burning island complex far behind, Ada secures the precious Plaga sample. Wesker appears to her on a monitor. She says she has completed her mission and he says that now that they have the sample, thanks to her, Umbrella is one step closer to re-establishment. And once it is, there will be significant changes in the world. RE4 – ADA’S REPORT Despite retrieving the plaga sample, Ada betrays Wesker and does not send it to him, instead sending him another ‘present’ as ordered by The Organisation. Although it was fun pretending to work with him, she is cautious as she knows Albert Wesker is an extremely dangerous man and that he seeks to re-establish Umbrella as a symbol of his own power. The Organisation will keep tabs on him as it is confirmed he has been in contact with pharmaceutical company ‘S’ following Umbrella’s demise. She is confident they will find him there, yet she feels this whole mission was just a taster of what he really has in store. UNOFFICIAL EVENTS After the incident, Leon contacts Chris Redfield with news that
Wesker’s plan is to re-establish Umbrella. Chris vows to track him down. |
