ASKED QUESTIONS
THE GAMES:
Everybody
knows there are many different ways to play through the games and that
the ‘true’ story is a mixture of the various character’s paths and
routes chosen throughout.
REMAKE
I have
presented remake as a hybrid of Chris and Jill’s stories. The cannon
ending has both Rebecca and Barry survive and this cannot be achieved in
either separate scenario and so they have been merged. I have added my
own preferences to events such as I still have Richard aid Jill against
the Yawn in the attic, yet I have Richard survive and he later goes on
to meet Chris in the aqua ring. My choices also take into account the
Umbrella Chronicles, for example, originally I had the climax of Jill
and Barry facing Wesker in the lab but I have now changed it to Chris
and Rebecca as UC clearly shows that Wesker does not activate the self
destruct system.
RE2
I use
aspects of all four scenarios although as the climax builds I go for
Claire A/Leon B. UC seems to back this up. It includes the Sherry
infection subplot and makes Ada’s survival more likely. Despite what
Wesker’s Report says, we never see or have any evidence of him actually
saving her life in any way. The only headache with this is that Leon B
implies Ada got the G-Virus out of Raccoon through Sherry’s pendant
whereas UC states she retrieved a tissue sample from Birkin’s corpse.
RE3
I go for
the ending where Barry makes a cameo. Everyone loves a bit of Burton.
Also, Nicholai surviving makes a nice change from the usual formula for
an RE baddie. He also pops up in an October dated report in RE Survivor
and in the original beta build of RECV it is Nicholai who is attacking
Claire at Umbrella’s European HQ in the helicopter.
OUTBREAKS 1
AND 2
REOUT1 – OUTBREAK –Evening of 25th September
Chief’s
Diary indicates the shit hits the fan on September 23rd and soon the
streets will be crawling with zombies. He spends the next day spreading
confusion around the police. By September 26th and 27th, files such as
operation report 1 and 2, and night watchman’s diary indicate there are
plenty of police still alive and so this is pre-RE3 intro. I place it as
the 25th, which means the army barricade the city on the morning of the
26th. Where Kevin uses the detonator to blow up the zombie army that is
the first real sighting of a major group of the undead. Operation
Reports, David’s Memo etc show that the zombies turn up en force on the
26th. As people have no real idea what is going on, why would they be
drinking in a bar if they knew a zombie invasion was going on. 25th it
is then.
REOUT1 –
HELLFIRE – Evening of 25th September
This is
placed at the same time as Outbreak, with the 8 players splitting up
into groups of 4. The Apple Inn is close to J’s bar and smoke can be
seen bellowing from it, indicating the place is on fire, which is the
situation we find ourselves in in Hellfire. Also, with firemen
patrolling the city, it must be very early into the incident if most of
the emergency services are still alive and kicking.
REOUT2 –
WILD THINGS – Evening of 25th September/Early hours of September 26th.
The players
who make their way to the zoo find an Evacuation Order file which is
written by RPD Officer, Raymond Douglas, which is the same officer who
pops up and dies in Outbreak. So he obviously wrote this before he was
killed by zombies, meaning this file must also be dated the 25th. Also,
with the RPD planning evac choppers for civilians, most of the services
must still be operational at this point, again indicating this takes
place early in the outbreak.
REOUT2 –
UNDERBELLY – Morning of 26th September.
Many of the
files in RE2 and RE3 indicate the day where the city really begins to
suffer is the 26th. The police station is attacked and the intro to this
scenario indicates the zombies are really starting to show up en masse.
As the player runs through the streets, many people are still alive and
being attacked by the creatures so again, I place this early into the
outbreak.
REOUT – THE
HIVE – Evening of 26th September
The UBCS
arrive on the night of the 27th, which means this has to take place
before then as there is no sign of any bodies in the hospital during
this scenario.
REOUT –
BELOW FREEZING POINT – Very early hours of September 27th
I have this
scenario follow The Hive as it ends in the sewers, which as we all know
leads a direct access to the underground labs.
REOUT 2 –
FLASHBACK – Day of September 27th
This is the
most ambiguous of all ten scenarios as it takes place outside of the
city and there really isn’t any indication of time. However, as this
scenario takes place during the day, I have it follow directly on from
the hive as the survivors take the train out of the factory above
Birkin’s lab which is the only logical way to reach Raccoon Forest.
REOUT 2 –
DESPERATE TIMES – Evening of September 27th
The RPD
make a stand in the early hours of the 27th. Operation Report 1 states
another battle breaks out at 1pm on the 27th and twelve more people are
killed. So by early evening a handful of officers are still alive and so
I place this scenario here. Jill finds Marvin during the daytime of
September 28th and the four officers left alive in Operation Report 2 as
of 2:30AM Sep 28th do not seem to be part of the escape plan of this
scenario.
REOUT1 –
DECISIONS, DECISIONS – Afternoon of October 1st to dawn October 2nd.
Pretty easy
to place this. The survivors are holed up at the RPD and it takes them
three hours to reach the university and Nicholai’s presence and events
take them right up to the missile impact at dawn on Oct 2nd.
REOUT2 –
END OF THE ROAD – Evening of October 1st to dawn of October 2nd.
Same as
above.
UMBRELLA
CHRONICLES
The main
story scenarios are not considered canon and are therefore not used save
for the Umbrella’s end levels. Chris and Jill do not stay together
throughout the mansion incident and the Raccoon Destruction levels
change the RE3 plot altogether. There is just no conceivable way they
can be used. However, certain scenes are used such as my retelling of
RE0, when the train crashes, I have changed it to add Richard’s radio
call to Rebecca.
BEGINNINGS
really sums up what a pain in the arse Resident Evil’s story
backtracking can do at times. These early Wesker levels are pointless
and add nothing whatsoever to the plot besides his very unlikely meeting
with Sergei at the end, I mean, what the hell was he doing there? If it
wasn’t relevant to the plot I would have left out beginnings altogether.
So to fit it in in a believable context, Beginnings 1 intro states that
the reclamation project was scrapped following Marcus’ outburst. I
thought the only conceivable reason for Wesker to go to the training
facility would be to perhaps get an up close look at the mess Marcus has
caused before they commit to blowing the whole place up. Obviously, the
place is still T-Virus infested and so I had him contact Birkin to get
him to go ahead with the destruct. Therefore Wesker knows the place is
about to blow and decides to leave via the train tunnel, where he
encounters Sergei. Some believe that Wesker was the one who set the self
destruct but there is nothing to suggest he did so during these levels.
The missing element is how he knew exactly when the facility would blow
and so that’s why I put in he radioed through. As to why Sergei would be
here well I believe the only reason is that he obviously has never
trusted Wesker and perhaps believes he is going to betray Umbrella. Why
else would he get the Red Queen to revoke his access privileges to the
mainframe unless he suspected Wesker was planning on stealing the data?
DEATH’S DOOR
This is
actually a nice little scenario and ties in nicely with Outbreak 2’s End
of the Road scenario in that Ada encounters the Tyrant before it is
consumed by the NYX. There are one or two problems however. Instead of
Sherry’s pendant, Ada claims to have a G-virus sample from Birkin’s
body, yet this would seem impossible as Claire is battling Birkin at the
same time as Ada throws the rocket launcher to Leon in his fight with Mr
X. How would Ada have time to do this, make her way back to the lab and
get a sample after Claire defeats him and then escape the lab before it
all blows up?
On another
note, if UMF 13 was located in Birkin’s lab and Sergei extracted it
before the lab blew on September 30th, why is he still flying around
with it in the early hours of Oct 2nd?
THE JAMES MARCUS ENIGMA: 1978 OR 1988?
Now we come
to Marcus’ assassination which I know Zero, Umbrella Chronicles and
Archives say happened in 1988 but I still don’t accept this. I believe
the original plot had Marcus die in 1978 but due to some mistake or lack
of communication this accidentally got changed. I let u read the
following argument:
CASE FOR:
- On the
NTSC version of Zero, in the Investigator’s Report file, it had Marcus
disappeared 20 years ago as opposed to 10.
- Marcus
created the T-virus and his Leech Growth Records of 1978 show that
they recognised him as his father mimic him and he has control over
them, which is the state we see him in when he returns in 1998. It is
implied his hatred of Spencer is so great he may try to kill him using
the leeches. But he doesn’t. Why? If you go with the official reason,
we never know, but if we go unofficial, he doesn’t move against
Spencer with his new power because he never gets the chance as he is
assassinated literally days later.
- If
Marcus survived to 1988 why is he not even mentioned in Wesker’s
Report 2? Zero was in development as Remake came out and so why not
mention him? Why do we not hear from Marcus for 10 years if he has
this awesome power? Surely him just being fired from Umbrella wouldn’t
stop him from getting his revenge? It doesn’t seem to stop anyone
else.
- It is
more plausible for William Birkin to say he created the T-Virus and
take all the credit if the original inventor was dead. If Marcus was
still alive surely he’d have something to say about Birkin’s success
with the virus. Its hard to imagine Marcus letting a 16 year old kid
have so much success with something that was not his creation
regardless whether Spencer removed him from power or not. If Marcus
was not killed in 1978 yet just removed from power, why didn’t he get
his revenge there and then?
- Why was
the Training Facility abruptly shut down in 1978? We are given no
indication, unless it was because the Facility Director had just been
assassinated because of his ‘mis-use’ of company trainees.
- Why is
Marcus seen killed in a seemingly fully-operational lab that had
apparently been shut down ten years earlier?
- If he
was removed from power in 1978 he can’t have got up to much trouble
for Umbrella and Spencer over the next ten years because we don’t hear
anything from him. So why do they suddenly assassinate him in 1988?
Why wait ten years?
- Why are
there no leech-related experiments during 1978-1988? Because only
Marcus had any interest in them and he is already dead.
- Marcus
planned to officially announce the T-virus at the next director’s
meeting in 1978, yet he never does? Why not? If Marcus was
assassinated in 1988, then Birkin does not take over his research
until then and makes Wesker’s Report 2 wrong. Yet if Marcus was killed
in 1978, then Birkin would announce the virus as his own and hence why
he is a chief researcher at Arklay later that year. When he says ‘I
will take over your research’ you have to assume he means the actual
research on the properties of the virus, not Marcus’ own research into
leeches. Birkin has no interest in the leeches.
